  • Not recommended Posted February 20, 2026 on Steam Game was all right, pretty limited content on launch. They sell a year one pass at launch; presumably so you can acquire all year one content for a slight discount. First post launch content. Cosmetics that frankly should have been in the base game, for 7.00$ naturally not included in the year one pass. This is exactly why the big companies are in decline and the indie developers are gaining in popularity. If you're interested wait a year and buy it on sale with the appropriate amount of content added in

  • Not recommended Posted December 7, 2025 on Steam Unfortunately I have to leave a negative review due to the state of the campaign. It ends very abruptly, without even telling the player, and moves to random quests. Based on the game files it has been confirmed that the whole last third of the story was cut from the campaign prior to release, thus missing a proper end to the campaign and a resolution to the conflict that is used as hook in chapter 1. Review will be changed / removed should the missing campaign content be patched in.
  • Not recommended Posted December 18, 2025 on Steam The game is good, yes it has some shortcomings but overall it is fun... Ubisoft Connect on the other hand continues to be an absolute disaster. Frequently taking 5+ mins to start a game, and more frequently just showing the message "This product cannot be activated right now, please try again later.". How about instead of telling your players to try again later, Ubisoft could drop the failed launcher and let people play the games they have paid for?
  • Not recommended Posted December 30, 2025 on Steam Having played about 100 hours of this, I thought it was time to write my review. Do I recommend this game? Currently No. Would I recommend this game in the future? Hopefully Yes. My reasons: This game, gets boring very quickly. The Campaign is so dull and so badly written it felt like the intern or the writers 10 year old son wrote it. You do a few 'fetch' quests which provide nothing towards the story, you meet the Pirate yet do nothing to stop them, the Emperor shows up randomly and blames you(?) and sends you off to Albion in what is probably the worst story telling I have seen. You get to Albion, it then throws you head first into combat, conquering and military, without giving you ANY hints or tips or help. By 'conquering Albion' it also means just fight the local Pirate, who at first presented a huge challenge, but with a few ships and 4 units you can destroy her undefended, weak outposts and ruin the entire challenge. You then return to Rome as a hero, the Emperor praises you, doing a complete 180 on how he felt about you before and that's where the 'Story' ends. It puts you into normal 'Endless' mode with a few Ai opponents and you can just 'Play'. The Campaign was and is awful and really not worth doing, I suggest people just jump straight into Endless and play that way. Ai Opponents may as well not exist. Dorian - doesn't expand quickly, doesn't go to Albion so doesn't go above tier 3 and is laughably the easiest and worst AI in any Anno game. Zara Nitu - Says she expands quickly, but only expanded to 2 islands and had to ask for my permission, very easy to beat, no threat. Tarragon - Can be a threat IF you anger him, but most of the time he settles 2-3 islands. If you do declare war on him, he will put up a light defense but equally be defeated. Concordia - She focuses on 'Roman Virtues' - doesn't do military or combat, doesn't expand much, very easy to defeat. No threat. Athr Iorgwyn - Only a stays in Albion, is suppose to be militaristc but doesn't bother you. Will be easily defeated if you have a Neferneru on. No threat. Neferneru - Broken AI if played on Hard or higher. Will declare war on you if you can't keep up, which with this game is VERY likely. Will knock out other opponents who don't stand a chance, has cheats involved allowing him to unlock things and build things quicker than you, making it hard to do anything but a war game with him as he will reach any pop or construction goal before you. The Emperor - Don't even attempt to fight the Emperor. it SHOULD be a fun challenge but it's not. In my game he arrived in both Albion and Latium with 30+ ships and about 70+ units. there was no way I could fight that. Mechanics: You will spend most of the game fighting the city status and city mechanics. The city status is a BIG negative to your health, fire risk and happiness. This mean you cannot build massive cities as they will just struggle and suffer. What does this mean? You will have to build small but wide. Expanding to different islands to build certain resources and then ship them back to your main island, all the while keeping the population class you need also happy on the new island. This game forces you with the City Status to build multiple big towns with maybe a slightly bigger city. Workforce is the bane for me in this game, everything requires workforce, higher tiers offer less workforce but offer more knowledge and income with the lower tier giving 50% towards your workforce but less income/knowledge. You can also place down buildings and add bonuses (like every Anno game) to add more, but in reality you need way more of the first tier than you do any others. This is difficult because the first tier workforce is the most needed for farms, military, and ships. This mean you either need to move your farming, ship building and military to an island which is solely first tier. The balancing just doesn't feel right, I don't like how I have to have an entire island dedicated to ship building and military, provide them with the resources they need and lose income because the tier 1 houses provide less income than the upkeep of military and ships. The last major problem I have with this game is.....I got bored. I got bored very quickly. Once you build the colosseum that's kind of it. There are only 4 tiers of residence and none of the things needed by them are all that difficult to make and get. I ended up playing with mods very quickly because they just made the game more enjoyable and playable to a point, which isn't what I wanted or expected when I paid £75 for this game. It's such a shame as the Anno series is by far my FAVOURITE series, I have played hours and hours, days and weeks for these games, I love the Romans too so this was going to be epic. Yet, it's not. I really, really hope they fix some of these issues, that they add more content, DLC which is free, because paying for DLC for this game in it's current state is a crime.
  • Not recommended Posted February 26, 2026 on Steam Selling a cosmetic DLC shortly after release, and that is not included in the season pass many gamers paid for? That's gonna be a no for me.
