Recommended Posted July 21, 2025 on Steam I’m 23. My little brother is 12. I’m the Orange Knight (fire = obviously superior). He’s the Blue Knight (overrated). We’ve played this game enough time to probably be knighted in real life. We’ve slashed our way through waves of enemies, eaten questionable fruits off the ground, and rode majestic deer that literally blast off with fear-powered POOP. Yes, POOP deer. This game is a masterpiece. One of my favorite moments: We reached the duel for the princess. I showed mercy. Let him win. Next time? No more mercy. I incinerated him like a discount marshmallow. Big brother balance restored. He still says he’s better. But I carry most boss fights. I get the best loot. I res him when he panics and dies in a corner. Let the record show: I am better. 🙃🤣 But honestly? This game is perfect. No other game lets you laugh this hard, button mash this violently, and bond this much across a 11-year age gap. * Art: Beautiful chaos * Combat: Fire and friendship * Coop: Loud, dumb, perfect * Value: Endless laughs * Poop deer: 10/10, would ride again -

Recommended Posted August 6, 2025 on Steam [Review is based on the Painter Boss Paradise version of the game] Castle Crashers is a gem from a forgotten time, born in the throes of the era of Flash games immortalised through long, sleepless school nights on our web browsers and for those fortunate enough, their Xbox 360s with XBLA. "SOUL" is thrown around a lot these days, but Castle Crashers is the exemplar of it: raw, unfiltered fun in a gorgeous and timeless art style with simplistic gameplay that manages to suck you in with its various systems that may seem obtuse at first, but very quickly come to feel complementary to the overall experience. When Castle Crashers was made, it preceded Steam greenlight, early access, kickstarter and the like: it was made by a passionate developer simply because they wanted to make a fun, charming game and even to this day, its price and very generous DLC pricing reflects that. The art style is splendid, allowing the game to age far more gracefully than its AAA "modern" contemporaries. The music, a collaborative effort on Newgrounds at the time, is of such a level of quality and ethereal-like quality that it puts even modern big-budget scores to shame. You'll whistle, you'll hum, you might even sing along to one of the tracks as you repeat a favourite level or boss. This is one of those games that, at least for me, got me to go out and beg my parents for Microsoft Points to buy it back in the day and I proceeded to sink dozens of hours into it. As an adult approaching my thirties, I've only come to adore it all the more as it effortlessly delivers the same feelings I felt when I first played it so long ago. Replay value is here in droves. Not only are there over 25 playable characters, but with the advent of Painter Boss Paradise, you now have a suite of infinite content at your disposal (providing you want to download someone's custom knight, or you can somewhat draw yourself). An already addicting game is now bolstered by a frankenstein build-a-knight that allows you to draw whoever you want, barring copyright, and apply any choice of magic to them. On top of the 25 knights and infinite amount of custom knights, there's 40 plus weapons to unlock and dozens of pets to unlock with their own unique abilities. The real star of the show here is the multiplayer, and that occupies the bulk of my playtime. A PVE experience throughout, Castle Crashers cleverly deviates from this with the four rescuable princesses, pitting you against your friends in frantic brawls to win the prized kiss from their beloved. It's juvenile, it's crass, and that's what makes it so charming. The humour of the game is consistent throughout: it doesn't try to be artsy, there is no smug superiority complex from the developer thinking they're above potty humour. If it's silly and it came to mind, you can bet they put it in, and that's something I will always commend a video game for doing. An uncompromising vision that yearns to be authentic, with all its cringe, juvenile humour and silly moments will always trump a game that plays it safe. If you've played the campaign to death, there's a PVP and PVE arena, and a barbarian minigame that will occupy many more hours of your time. It's impressive that this is a seventeen year old game, and one of the very few games that were you to pick it up today, it would transport you right back in time to when you were on your living room couch playing the game on XBLA on your parents television. Castle Crashers is a celebratory romp of what, for many, are the best years of our lives - our childhoods. Recommended Posted June 15, 2025 on Steam The 22 minutes here doesn't even come close to the hundreds of hours my friends family and myself have dumped into Caste Crashers. I purchased this game on Sale for like 8 dollars and did so on the principle alone. My children will play this game, it is fantastic. -
Recommended Posted December 18, 2025 on Steam Can't believe it's been nearly 20 years since I played this on Xbox with friends local coop on the couch. I remember finding out about Alien Hominid's game through Newgrounds. Good times. We all dove back into it via online and it's STILL one of the best beat'em up games I've ever played. I was very surprised how much new content they added even recently to this game, The painter DLC is worth it. STILL an absolute blast to play.
