  • Recommended Posted March 21, 2026 on Steam NOTE: This review is primarily focused on offline, PvE gameplay, which is not how everyone will play this game. Deathloop is a lot of fun. I got it in a bundle, saw that it had mixed reviews, and had heard that it got a lot of hate online, so I went in expecting very little. What I got was a pretty fun time loop shooter with 70s flair, an engaging gameplay loop, and a writing that was interesting enough to sustain me throughout my playthrough. As far as stealth action shooters go, it's not exactly breaking the mold (I haven't played Prey, but Deathloop's gameplay is very similar to Dishonored), but it uses it's mechanics well. Maps are littered with enemies, defenses, weapons, shortcuts, secrets, etc., and multiple playstyles are viable. Depending on the items and upgrades you get, you can go into every situation guns blazing, kill your enemies stealthily, focus on setting traps and hacking gadgets, sneak past everyone to eliminate targets discreetly, or turn yourself into a melee tank, and you can switch up your playstyle whenever you want. Combat is difficult enough that you can't just mindlessly charge into any situation and come out on top, but you shouldn't find yourself dying endlessly either. Similarly, the game's puzzles offer enough challenge to be interesting without making you want to run to a guide or quit in frustration. One thing I appreciate about Deathloop is that it seems to take itself seriously as a time loop story. I've seen people complain that it's repetitive, and while I think that can be true (though there are 4 large maps, each with 4 different versions/times of day containing differing enemy layouts, secrets, and accessible areas)... it's a time loop. I don't know what these people expect. Have they seen Groundhog Day? Edge of Tomorrow? Happy Death Day? Palm Springs? Until Dawn? Repetition is kinda the point. It forces you to think "how can I break out of this loop?" Once you have that purpose, what repetition there is becomes part of the solution rather than a chore. So, is Deathloop perfect? No, of course not. Is it enjoyable? Very much so. Does it overstay it's welcome? Only if you let it.
  • Recommended Posted March 21, 2026 on Steam If you wished stealth games didn't disincentivize you from using your sick powers to murder people, then try Deathloop, a game that gives you all the overpowered tools of Dishonored and puts you on Epstein Island. I don't remember how hard this game pushes the "roguelike" thing but it isn't at all, you don't even lose your sick purple/orange drops if you die if you pay a trivial currency cost to bind it. That was a mechanic I was really hoping to see in the game to incentivise being careful with what you bring in, kinda like one of them extraction shooters, but insurance is so dirt cheap it's a non-factor, and your gear gets carried over between loops. The PvP is kind of silly, in that you are literally just PvPing with really strong abilities pretty much balanced for PvE, and it's actually kind of fun to see how you can out-♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ your opponent. You can choose to play without invasions if you want, if I remember correctly.
  • Not recommended Posted September 28, 2025 on Steam There has been an access violation error when trying to open the game for YEARS now and it has not been fixed. Seems to affect older NVIDIA cards (the common solution is to rollback to a really RATHER QUITE OLD driver). No attempt has been made to fix it... again, for years.
  • Not recommended Posted July 28, 2025 on Steam I love it when my singleplayer game crashes and because it has all this needless online ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I lose all my progress despite me playing it as a singleplayer game just make Dishonored 3 ffs Nvm it's just constantly crashing now I guess cuz Denuvo and/or newer drivers idk but it's actually unplayable coolcoolcoolcool Edit to my edit to my edit: it doesn't crash on Steam Deck, if nothing else... so there's that...
  • Recommended Posted December 19, 2025 on Steam An outlandish departure for Arkane, DEATHLOOP comes through feeling incredibly confident in both its style and structure, and while it doesn't always hit every mark it aims for, it manages to be so fun in your hands that its easy to forgive its shortcomings. Is it "better" than Prey or Dishonored or even Mooncrash? Maybe not, but I respect taking the shot at something not so safe.
