Not recommended Posted May 1, 2026 on Steam 25 years, that's how long I've been playing Diablo. The Butcher in D1 was the first adrenaline rush a game ever gave me, at age 9. I skipped school to go to a cyber cafe for Diablo 2, got into a fight with my parents for overstaying to finish a dungeon, spent hours on GameFAQs researching builds when I couldn't get back to the cafe. I took a full week of annual leave when Diablo 3 launched. I bought Diablo 4 at full price on launch because I believed I was buying a game I'd play for years. I was wrong, and not because the game got stale. Because Blizzard deliberately made it worse for people who don't pay more. With the Lord of Hatred expansion, Blizzard overhauled the entire loot system. Normal and magic items now drop in higher tiers (Torment 1 and 2), and players are expected to use the Horadric Cube to upgrade them. The Horadric Cube is locked behind the Lord of Hatred paywall. This is categorically different from how Vessel of Hatred handled its paywalled content. Runes were locked behind that expansion too, but runes were supplemental. They weren't a core mechanic the base game was redesigned around. They didn't even appear for players who hadn't bought the DLC. The Horadric Cube is different. The base game's loot loop has been rebuilt with the expectation that you have it. Without it, you're playing a broken version of a game you already paid full price for. This is planned obsolescence by definition. Blizzard holds an oligopoly in the ARPG space, and they know that long-term fans, the people most emotionally invested in the franchise, are also the least likely to walk away. They're banking on brand loyalty functioning like an addiction. Loyal customers aren't being rewarded. They're being exploited. The defenders of this will tell you to just buy the expansion, that complaining makes you a 'broke boy,' that the gameplay is great so what's the problem. That's not a rebuttal. That's what it looks like when someone's identity is so wrapped up in a brand that they'll defend the company's right to exploit them. Good visuals and fun combat don't make predatory business practices okay. After 25 years, I'm done. Just uninstalled. Not because the game isn't fun, it is. But because I refuse to reward a company that views my loyalty as leverage to extract more money from me. There are other ARPGs made by developers who still respect the people who built their franchise. Goodbye, Blizzard. -
Not recommended Posted April 28, 2026 on Steam Releasing expensions with new classes is ok to me. Paywalling skills for existing classes is not. Blizzard is a greedy company with no respect for its players. -
Recommended Posted August 27, 2025 on Steam It is hard to judge a Blizzard game in todays age (as of writing this: 2025). The company is only a name. And it lives on it's laurels from old times. That being said: Diablo 4 is a good enough game to get you engaged. The creativity that once oozed out of Blizzard games isn't there anymore. They try to be formulaic with their games and succeed with it. The graphics are good, the gameplay is good, everything is good. But is it excellent? No. You will have fun with Diablo 4. But dont expect it to be this marvel of ingenuity or revolutionary experience in the genre. Buy it on sale. Diablo 4 is the cold pizza of the genre. It may be cold, but it's still pizza. -
Not recommended Posted April 28, 2026 on Steam I wish I didn't buy the game. I can understand them wanting to make money but locking nodes in the trees of classes I paid for, are you for real ? forcing me to buy access for something I already paid for ? ♥♥♥♥ YOU. AND ♥♥♥♥ YOUR GAME. -
Not recommended Posted March 14, 2026 on Steam It's actually got the skeleton of a fantastic ARPG there. Unfortunately, it's wearing the skin of a predatory business model that wants all your money. -
Not recommended Posted March 8, 2026 on Steam Let just say Diablo games are amazing and keep finding ways to make the next better, I will always love Diablo series and the lore. My issue is with the company and how they manage the game. They charge you $70 for a package deal (prolly the standard versions) which we all know next dlc will be roughly that same price. The Base Diablo 4 game atm of this review is $50, Lord of Hatred is for Standard $40(was $70 on release) Ultimate $90 and Vessel of Hatred is Standard $40 and $90 for Ultimate, let that sink in awhile. Now lets talk about all the microtransactions..... Where to start from? Platinum(used to buy in game stuff) 500 for $5 - 18500 for $150. Now the battle pass which costs 2780 platinum and that runs 2800 plat for $25. So in conclusion, if your buying the standard of it all including battle pass, your spending either $70 for the package deal or $50+40+40=$130 and then $25 for every battle pass you want to complete in the future for the whole game standard and a whooping $50+90+90=$230 and then $25 for battle pass and a additional $25 every battle pass after, god forbid i mention the future dlc prices that come after this review adding to the unrealistical prices.
