Recommended Posted January 24, 2026 on Steam It was an intense game. I did like the story line. There were so many puzzles. I could have done with a few less puzzles. Some of the mechanics were challenging. I was using the mouse and keyboard. But if I can finish the game at 72 years old, many others can do it. They threw all the fighting toward the last. It was tiring but I did enjoy it. -
Not recommended Posted February 2, 2026 on Steam A fine game with fine combat, story, visuals and music. However The game is 80% environmental puzzles. I find this sort of thing incredibly tedious. An enviro puzzle can make for fine flavour, but not a main course. If you have a high tolerance for tedious puzzle padding, but his on sale. Otherwise you can miss it. -
Recommended Posted November 5, 2025 on Steam Maybe a little biased here... But my kid worked on the game so this was the push I needed to finally make a Steam account. So far enjoying the game. Having played most of my games in the late 90s and early 2000's I played the game on story mode, and so far I'm managing to make my way through this. And Kyrkjufell (the mountain in the background) deserves a reccomendation all on it's own -
Not recommended Posted February 13, 2026 on Steam TL;DR: It seems like a dark fantasy ARPG but it's just environmental puzzles for days. I like the story and the world, I love the voice-acting and the characters, but damn getting torn out of the game and into puzzle mode blows. And I usually like puzzles, just not running around an area doing jank counterintuitive stuff like this to get back to the rest. Way too much of this, unfun, like playing two different games wrapped in one and not allowed to play the one game out of the two that I care about. It's like reading a book that presents itself as a thriller and then suddenly switches genres to some other ♥♥♥♥ you're not interested in. Unfortunately this didn't really show itself until just after the refund window expired for me. I guess I'm a dadgamer now insofar as my time has more value, and once a game stops being fun it's really hard to look back. Hats off to an indie studio for following their dreams and making something different, telling a story their way - but for me, this didn't come together right and the game later turned out to be something else from what I was expecting. I'm not having fun with the game and I'm unhappy with my purchase because it set up expectations which it later betrayed, and now I can't refund it. And for that reason, I'm out. Hence the negative review. -
Not recommended Posted August 15, 2025 on Steam It's an odd game, looks amazing and the story so far seem decent however the character feels like they are floating on top of the world. Interactions with terrain, even just walking feel weightless and wrong. combat is frustrating as it locks you into killing moves that don't stop incoming damage, would ideally turn them off, seemingly no way to avoid ranged combat that clips through enemies and the ground to hit you so you always have to kill them first in any combat. really want to like it but its only ok -
Not recommended Posted March 21, 2026 on Steam
Dragged Out and Forgettable
Really wasted potential here. Because I really like simple linear action adventure games. But the game has some serious issues.
Writing and Characters
Writing is really bad. Can't say the voice acting is great either. The old guy was good with the voice acting (I finished the game 2 weeks ago and already forgot the names). And he is the only interesting character in the game. The story is so dull, and the main character is such an annoying one.
Tempo and Game Length
The biggest issue with the game is definitely tempo. The puzzles take too much of the already extremely artificially lengthened game time, and it gets too boring. This should not have been a 15-hour game. I rushed this, and even then, it lasted 12 hours. And believe me, it felt like 20 hours. The game should have been half the length and half the price. It lasted too long; I was having seizures at the end. The core gameplay loop is just extremely repetitive.
Optimization and Graphics
Optimization is really bad. Yes, the game looks decent, even though it screams Unreal Engine 5 visually. It should have run better.
Some Good Ideas
It has some good stuff. The developers really wanted to have some mechanical depth in gameplay, both in combat and puzzles. The environmental and enemy variety is also not bad. But the tempo really kills it. It is an ambitious debut title, an unoriginal one that is, but that still does not save the boredom I experienced with Echoes of the End. If you don't have the budget and experience to do something extraordinary, you have to have some originality, your own character as a game, something to stand out in your game. Echoes of the End simply doesn't have that, sadly.
