• Recommended Posted November 3, 2025 on Steam I don't write Steam reviews often but I needed to for this game, because someone said "Its pretty, but is it FUN?" as part of a critique and that was enough to make me hesitate to play it when it first released. That was very dumb of me. The amount you'll enjoy this game will correlate directly to how much you as an individual love animals. Are you the kind of person who pet Trico in Last Guardian long after the mechanical benefits had been met? Do you like feeding your pokemon poffins in Pokemon Amie? Do you always give custom names to YOUR pet in World of Warcraft even when it looks the same as everyone else's? Then you will love this game.
• Recommended Posted December 8, 2025 on Steam Oh. My. God. It happened. Someone actually did it. The game has quiet menu music and master volume set to 60% by default so it doesn't blow your eardrums out when you first start it up. 10/10. The GOAT. Oh yeah, animals are cool.

• Recommended Posted August 31, 2025 on Steam my in depth herdling review on YT ♡ i want to start this review by letting you know there is an immortality setting for the calicorns that you can turn on in the settings, since i think this will be a big factor for whether some people decide to play the game or not lol, especially since this game really gets you to care for each calicorn and you are basically responsible for guiding them safely. if one of them dies, the pain would feel so real :> herdling is the newest game from okomotive, the studio behind the far series. instead of piloting a giant machine through empty landscapes, this time we play as a young shepherd traveling with mysterious creatures called calicorns. we begin in a ruined city, find our first companion, and from there set out on a journey through forests, mountains, and forgotten places. the focus of the game is your relationship with the calicorns. you feed them, comfort them, and guide them along the path, and they actually feel like companions rather than `game mechanics`. each one has their own little quirks and personality, which makes the herd feel so alive and unique. the game is very smart on creating this bond since the first interaction you have with your calicorns is naming them. herdling moves at a slow and steady pace. there are no puzzles like in FAR games, no dialogue, no big action scenes, just the journey forward. and this simplicity is part of what makes the game so peaceful. the art and atmosphere are gorgeous, and the feeling of protecting your herd gives every step weight. it’s a very quiet experience and definitely not for everyone. but if you enjoy games like journey, gris, abzu, or the far series, i think you would enjoy this.

• Recommended Posted January 26, 2026 on Steam This game isn't about the money, the time it takes to play or the puzzles. Art style is beautiful and creative, the story is there for you to discover on your own terms. But the heart of this game lies in your calicorns, each of them unique and with the occasional little quirk. Some need more attention and love, some are brave and fierce but the charm of this game is that they're different every time you play. I went into my first playthrough thinking like I assume most do. "How hard can it be to keep them all alive to the end? This is gonna be piss easy." You're broken in gently, mechanics of the game made clear in a gorgeously subtle experience that doesn't fatigue in repeated playthroughs. Then the complacency kicks in. Before you know it, one of your calicorns has perished. It's a disappointment and I briefly grieve for my calicorn and my ego that was bested by a walking simulator. I make an inward vow to do better for my remaining herd and continue onward to complete our travels. The first stampede after that loss is where everything changed. It's haunting and peaceful all at once. Glorious, yet sombre. Heart-breaking and tormenting. For anyone that has lost a pet, their best friend, their second shadow: I was hit by a wave of emotion every time I was teased with their presence. Made me feel some things I've not put myself through for a while. Can't recommend this enough. Take all my money and do something good with it.
