Recommended Posted August 19, 2025 on Steam
Buy it if you believe in the developers and the idea. Don't buy it if you're expecting a full-fledged replacement for The Sims right out of the gate.
inZOI is a raw but promising game with huge potential. It’s currently in early access, and that’s something you need to keep in mind while playing. Yes, the game is far from being finished. Although it has its strong points like very beautiful graphics, nice character customization and an open world, as many people have already written, many mechanics are not polished yet, gameplay feels shallow and there is not as much content as we'd like, especially considering how the price stings (for, again, early access). However, the game still has a lot to do for an early access and has a solid foundation. I believe that time will be kind to the game, and I hope that it will acquire such a quantity of content that it will not be a pity to pay this money for.
What about comparisons to The Sims?
I don't think that comparisons with The Sims 4 are 100% fair, although it is clear that they are inevitable - the genre is the same. However, it is not clear why people are surprised that inZOI could not "beat" The Sims 4 by launch, considering that one game is already more than 10 years old and has dozens of DLCs, while the second one is not even a year old, and the first (free) DLC is only on the way? Guys, be for real, remember The Sims 4 at its release. Now inZOI is already being branded dead but how can a game be dead if it has not even been born yet? It's ok not to like the game but stop giving new games the titles of "THIS GAME WILL KILL (insert game title)" and drowning in your own expectations, it harms games. And yet, I think that inZOI can create healthy competition for EA with their long-standing monopoly in the genre of life sim games, although alas, we will have to wait. Finally - give inZOI time, it deserves it. For now IMHO 6/10 with a huge emphasis on the future. -
Not recommended Posted March 17, 2026 on Steam I’ve tried this game a few times over the last year, hoping each time that it would finally click, but it never really does. Every time I come back, I end up playing for about two hours and then realizing the entire experience just feels… empty. The visuals are impressive and the character creator is clearly a big focus, but once you get past that, the game feels strangely soulless. The world looks detailed, yet there’s very little that actually feels meaningful to do. Interactions feel shallow, characters lack personality, and nothing that happens feels memorable or dynamic. It’s the kind of game that looks like it should be full of life, but somehow never actually feels alive. After a couple hours I’m usually left wondering what the point was, because nothing really pulls me in or makes me want to keep playing. I keep checking back hoping updates will add more depth, but right now the experience feels more like a beautiful shell than a living simulation. -
Recommended Posted June 5, 2025 on Steam Started the game. Made a man who only wears robes and exclusively speaks to kettles. He now owns 47 chairs and refuses to sit down. I built him a house with no doors. He escaped. A woman danced for seven hours while on fire. Her name was Linda. At one point I blinked and I was a sandwich. The game didn't explain, and honestly, it was right not to. I have no idea what I’m doing, and the game seems proud of me for that. Highly recommend. Or don’t. Time isn’t real here -
Recommended Posted June 28, 2025 on Steam I was genuinely hyped for inZOI—like, waiting up until midnight on launch day excited. I’d seen so many influencers streaming the early access, and it really sold me on the idea. Growing up playing The Sims and collecting every expansion pack, I was ready to dive into a new kind of life simulation experience. But after spending some time with inZOI, I have to say I’m pretty disappointed. I get that it’s still early access, but honestly, comparing inZOI to The Sims feels like apples and oranges. The two games offer very different vibes and gameplay styles. Yes, inZOI leans into realism in interesting ways: the WASD movement from a shoulder perspective, manual driving, deeper character customization, actively participating in workdays, personalized text responses, and a wide range of social interactions are definite highlights. That said, interacting with other characters, or “Zois,” is often frustrating due to inconsistent mechanics. There were plenty of times where I clicked to start a conversation and… nothing happened. The action just disappeared from my action bar. Super annoying. Another issue was feeling aimless after a while. Sure, your character has urges that nudge you to prioritize tasks, but beyond that, I kept asking myself, “What’s next?” One of the things I loved about The Sims was that it gave you plenty of meaningful goals to work towards, making the gameplay feel purposeful even when you weren’t just customizing. Personally, I like having clear objectives because I don’t enjoy aimlessly wandering around making up my own tasks. I want to know why I’m doing what I’m doing. For example, is reading a book supposed to help me become a teacher, or improve my speech? Some context or goals like that would help make the experience more rewarding. I even tried hosting an event to see how that worked, and wow, it was a mess. I set it at the gaming lounge, but if a Zoi was already sitting at a computer, I couldn’t interact with them at all. No clue why. The communication system also left a bad taste. If you don’t quickly select your next response, the NPC might just walk away mid-conversation. Like, why are you running off? I was talking to you! The NPCs move so fast that sometimes I couldn’t even finish reading the prompts, which was tough, especially for someone like me with dyslexia. Don’t get me wrong, The Sims has its own quirks—like why does your Sim go to the bathroom to wash a dish, or why do they scream at the fire instead of running away? We’ve all been there. But at least those moments feel endearing in their chaos. To wrap up this long review: I think inZOI has serious potential, but as it stands, it’s not delivering the best experience for me. It feels like there’s a lot of pressure to love it just because it’s pitched as a competitor to The Sims, but the folks behind The Sims really know what they’re doing. I’ve happily played The Sims for 10+ hours straight before, but I couldn’t make it past 2 and a half hours in one sitting with inZOI. It’s not fair to say The Sims is just “better” given it’s had over 20 years to evolve and polish, and if we all went back to play the original Sims today, many of us might not enjoy it either. I fully believe inZOI can grow and improve over the next few years, but as of now, it doesn’t come close to matching the current Sims experience. Rating: 6/10 -
Recommended Posted May 5, 2026 on Steam I bought Inzoi on Launch and yes it was very empty and boring. I played maybe 5hrs in total until I touched it again, just over a year later. Let's be real here. We are comparing it to the Sims 4 and it ain't nowhere near the Sims 4 yet. I will say they are trying to achieve what the Sims 4 base game isn't. Inzoi is highly detailed in its build mode and charatcer creation, straight from the begining. There is a lot of potential here to be creative. The learning curve is quiet higher than the Sims 4, but I feel that this game is targeting the niche community out there that loves to detail their homes etc.. with the ability to basically add anything to their world. Mods are now starting to slowly find its way into the game with the recently released modkit. This game is built using Unreal Engine 5, which has a lot of documentation, so I am very Hopefully to see what kind of mods and worlds we can add to this game. Perhaps even a GTA V RP is possible. Depsite the Mods, I find myself actaully now wanting to play a couple of hours of the game each day. Its not as souless and empty as it once was. Yes there is stilll a bit to go in terms of creating a lively world. But overall I would pick this game up on Sale if I where you, So far you aren't missing out on much. Its just a more realistic Sims 4 base game. The more poeple play the better the game will get!
