  • Not recommended Posted August 19, 2025 on Steam Madden NFL 26 Review A step forward in presentation, a stumble in fundamentals. Madden NFL 26 is, on paper, the most ambitious Madden in years. Franchise mode has been overhauled with new systems, the presentation finally feels like a true NFL broadcast, and even weather adds more variety to immersion. But while the game looks and sounds better than ever, the same old gameplay issues drag everything down. Until EA addresses these year-over-year problems, no amount of new features can make Madden feel like real football. ✅ Strengths Franchise Mode Adds Depth Franchise is the clear highlight this year. Wear-and-tear adds long-term roster considerations, coordinator skill trees bring variety to staff building, and weekly playsheets allow for better preparation. On paper, this is the deepest Franchise has been in a decade and a genuine step forward. Better Salary Management With Edge Classification A subtle but important change is the new edge classification for pass rushers. In the past, a 3–4 outside linebacker and a 4–3 off-ball linebacker were valued the same, which broke contract logic. Now, elite sack artists are grouped and paid properly, while role players are valued more realistically. It’s a small tweak that makes salary cap and roster management feel much more authentic. Presentation Is a Huge Step Forward Madden 26 finally nails the NFL atmosphere. Team-specific field art, jumbotron graphics, dynamic lighting, and broadcast-style commentary make every game feel like a true Sunday showcase. It’s easily the biggest leap in presentation the series has made in over a decade. Dynamic Weather Brings Variety Weather effects add personality to games, with rain, snow, and shifting conditions keeping Franchise matchups fresh. When tuned properly, it’s a strong addition to immersion — though not without flaws. Pre-Snap Adjustments Add Real Depth On both sides of the ball, Madden offers an impressive range of pre-snap options: hot routes, audibles, blocking shifts, coverage shells, line shifts, shading, and more. This toolset gives players tremendous control over tailoring their strategy, reacting to defenses, and disguising their looks. In terms of customization and flexibility, Madden provides one of the most robust pre-snap systems in sports gaming. Passing Rewards Skill (When Using Placement & Accuracy) The placement-and-accuracy passing mechanic isn’t new, but it remains Madden’s best way to throw. It rewards timing, ball placement, and decision-making in ways that legacy controls don’t. At its best, it makes passing genuinely satisfying and shows the kind of skill gap the series should lean into. ❌ Weaknesses Wear-and-Tear Doesn’t Apply Fairly The wear-and-tear system adds depth for the user, but CPU teams don’t appear to be affected in the same way. Opposing stars rarely wear down over a season, which undermines realism and creates an uneven playing field. Blocking and Pass Protection Remain Broken Offensive linemen still abandon their assignments, chasing defenders who pose no threat and leaving huge gaps unprotected. Sliding protection, meanwhile, often fails to pick up blitzers even when you’ve set it correctly. These issues make running inconsistent and pass protection unreliable. Quarterback AI Is Nonsensical Quarterbacks scramble far too often, even pocket passers who shouldn’t. They also take repeated hits without fumbling or getting injured, breaking immersion and balance. Instead of playing to their strengths, QBs often behave like glitchy hybrids. Coach ID & Team Identity Fall Flat Coach ID was supposed to bring unique tendencies to coordinators and head coaches, but in practice it doesn’t feel impactful. Run-first teams almost never commit to the ground game — outside of Baltimore, the AI rarely leans on it. The lack of team identity makes every opponent feel the same. Reach Mechanic Hurts Power Backs The new reach-for-extra-yards mechanic makes power runners a liability. Instead of triggering a truck, backs often attempt a reach animation that leads to unnecessary fumbles. EA should have tied this to a modifier (like LT) instead of making it override trucking by default. Kicking System Feels Awful The revamped kicking and punting controls are clunky and lack feedback. While designed to reward skill, they feel unpredictable, leaving you unsure where the ball will land. Special teams play is worse off because of it. Pre-Snap Options Are Poorly Explained For all its depth, Madden does a terrible job teaching players how to use pre-snap mechanics. That’s a huge issue because many of these tools are core counters to other systems. Sliding protection, for example, is designed to stop blitzes — but if players don’t know how it works, they’ll assume blocking is broken. By failing to explain its own mechanics, Madden wastes one of its biggest strengths. General AI Awareness Issues Across the board, AI awareness is poor. Linemen ignore assignments, quarterbacks make nonsensical decisions, and coaches call games without identity. Too often, outcomes hinge not on user skill but on AI errors that break football logic. ⚖️ Verdict Madden 26 makes meaningful strides off the field. Franchise is deeper and smarter, the new edge classification improves roster management, and the presentation finally captures the look and feel of the NFL. When the gameplay works as intended — threading a perfect pass with placement and accuracy, disguising a blitz, or locking down a drive with smart defense — Madden shines. The problem is those moments are too few and far between. The on-field issues remain the same year after year: broken blocking, clueless AI, unrealistic quarterback behavior, and now a frustrating new kicking system. Until EA addresses these fundamentals, every new feature will feel like window dressing. Madden 26 is an improvement over recent titles, but it still isn’t the Madden fans deserve. Score: 6/10 — Outstanding presentation, deeper Franchise, but still broken where it matters most. Edited Update Since my original review, a recent patch and some personal adjustments have noticeably improved my experience with Madden 26. One of the biggest changes was switching Franchise Mode from Simulation to Competitive. In Competitive, outcomes are tied more directly to player ratings, which makes plays feel a little more consistent and predictable compared to Sim. This shift, along with slider tweaks to balance QB accuracy, pass coverage, and tackling, has helped smooth out a lot of the gameplay’s rough edges. That said, the game’s AI remains a major weak point. Defensive backs controlled by the AI routinely come down with contested 50/50 balls in ways that feel scripted, while your own receivers often don’t get the same treatment. These outcomes highlight how heavily the game leans on predetermined results, rather than dynamic, skill-based interactions. Even in Competitive mode, where ratings are supposed to drive outcomes, it can feel like the system is stacked in the AI’s favor at critical moments. So while the updates and adjustments do make Madden 26 more enjoyable, the core problems with AI logic and scripted gameplay remain. The game is better than it was at launch, but it still struggles to deliver a truly authentic football experience without player-side tinkering. Score remains the same at a 6/10.
  • Not recommended Posted August 30, 2025 on Steam Totally unfinished and unoptimized for PC. I broke my rule and bought the new version to maybe feel joy as a Bears fan, and once again I'm requesting a refund before an hour of gameplay. The yearly release cadence doesn't hold up anymore, and Madden 26 is a stinker. EA doesn't deserve the exclusive license to NFL games.

Pictures of players are years old now, Eagles been running the tush push for 4 years and Madden still can't figure out how to add it, but got the backwards hurdle in a week? smh Trying to catch a ball is either infuriating or too simple. How is there 0 in between there? No replay value for the seasons ending. Remember in Madden 06 when you could control tickets, food, and drink prices for your stadium? Upgrade parts of it? Madden 26 has less features than a 20 year old game. Hilarious at which players they made sure to get scanned in to the game but the others they were like nah no one cares what this guy looks like. How is there only 5 options for Super Star? I want to play Saftey, D Line, Edge, Tight End, hell the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kicker. Nope they only care about 5 positions and give you impossible to obtain marks that bug out. WR2 gets put as WR1 and then goes to 0 in influence because the game was copy pasted too many times for it to know what the hell its supposed to be doing.
  • Not recommended Posted December 20, 2025 on Steam It's still madden. It's still subpar. I bought it at 60% off, which is closer to its accurate value, but not there yet. Hopefully the NFL exclusive license is revoked someday
  • Not recommended Posted August 16, 2025 on Steam They really need to remove EA and let someone else do football games. It is disgusting how bad it is every year. The loading times are just dumb. Why do you have to wait 10-15 seconds after a play? Stop showing the Madden logo after every play. Also it is very very unrealistic in the modes that matter (superstar and franchise). Fix the AI and make a good game or I hope you lose the license.
