Not recommended Posted October 28, 2025 on Steam Having played different versions previously, I just didn't feel the same about playing this. The music starts off hyped instead of the buildup as the stage progresses and no ability to play the game without an active internet connection was the instant turn off. You shouldn't need an internet connection to play an offline game. I'm glad I was able to get it refunded quickly. -
Not recommended Posted November 8, 2025 on Steam I had fun with Replanted, but that's not because Replanted is a good remaster but rather because it's still just regular PVZ1. If you're thinking of buying Replanted, seriously just don't, GOTY is still available for way cheaper and you're not missing out on anything major by not buying Replanted. This remaster is littered with so many bugs and glitches that you can barely even justifying this version a "remaster" and more just off-brand PVZ1. I've compiled a list of bugs I've seen and experienced in my playthrough, the fact these bugs even exist for a remaster of a game released back in 2009 is baffling. -The Menu button is missing from Choose Your Seeds. -All plants have increased firing speeds, a single Peashooter can solo a Conehead. -Plant sizing in the seed packets are inconsistent. -Spikeweed isn't aligned in the bottom right tiles as a remnant of the GOTY edition. -You can see the level in the background during loading screens. -Crazy Dave's dialogue sounds break during his conversations in the shop. -Cloudy Days rain doesn't properly land on the roof and splatters above it. -You can access the bonus Great Wall level before even unlocking Flower Pot. -The Silver Sunflower trophy dropped by Zomboss is improperly scaled. -Zomboss icon in the level select screen isn't blacked out. -RIP Mode has an ever-so-present random image overlay that for the life of me I cannot figure out what it is. -Portal Combat can still put portals right infront of your lawnmowers and not have them trigger. -Start Onslaught button in Last Stand doesn't disappear during Choose Your Seeds. -Sound effects stop playing when theres too many happening at once. -Zombies Brains groans are sped up when using the turbo button(?) -Plant names aren't shown when hovering over plants on the conveyor. -Plants imitated by Imitator are colored gray instead of white. -Imitator has the wrong seed packet background. -The game randomly crashes. -Cabbage Pult randomly swaps to his PVZ2 costume. -Backup Dancer randomly swaps to his Pre-GOTY design. -Deselcting imitated plants in CYS still shows the gray overlay for a split second. -Retro Peashooter and Retro Zombie have horrible audio mixing. -You cannot click on zombies during CYS to go the almanac. -Feet Grown text is misaligned and too small. -Coins have click priority over everything. -Pumpkins are still animated when viewing the lawn. -You can't use the Watering Can while it's active. -Dance Code from Tree of Wisdom is missing. -There's no Achievement screen. -Horde Theme plays in the Intro. -Almanac and Shop buttons are in swapped positions compared to GOTY. And these are just the ones I remember, god knows there's even more. This game, despite not stating it anywhere, uses AI upscaling for its art. While most of it goes unused all of the concept art is AI upscaled. This is not a good look when the Twitter account has stated the game "doesn't use AI", blatantly lying to your consumers sure is a strategy of all time I suppose. Every asset in this game is traced over AI upscaled art which leads to the line thickness for both plants and zombies to flipflop constantly, leading to nearly every single asset in this game to be inaccurate to the original sprites. Some plants have thick lines while some don't, leading to the game feeling like it's melting. Take a plant like Sunflower, its line thickness being smaller than in the original sometimes leaves it to having spots where the petals dont connect in its animation (Granted, this is the same in GOTY, but it is much less noticable). The shading for both plants and zombies are inaccurate to the original sprites, Squash suffers the most from this, making him look awful because of the shading of his eyes. The fact this game has to have updates just to make it somewhat functional is horribly pathetic and does not make up for anything, Dynamic Music should of been here since launch, not a week after. Complaining about this game seems like the only way to even get it patched, the fact people had to complain just for PVZ2 Cabbage Pult on the key art to be removed says volumes. The marketing for this game is the scale of "we're so back" and "it's so over", the CGI trailers are probably what took up most of Replanteds budget rather than the actual game itself. In the dev diary they blatantly lie and get facts wrong about PVZ1, surely nothing will go wrong when you put the guy who claims "Zomboss' theme is an easter egg we didn't include in the soundtrack" as one of the heads of the game. Updates aren't at the same time unlike when Garden Warefare and Garden Warefare 2 were still getting updated, leading to the console ports being more buggier and lacking more content compared to the steam version, why do they have to wait for their game to be better? I would like to touch up on the "new" content.. which is barely anything at all, being Adventure+ but with a filter over it, some base levels with a sun modifier that applies sometimes, a half baked turbo button, fraudulent images and the worst attempt of "so retro" among other things. Cloudy Day is an interesting concept that falls flat because the concept itself is a novelty rather than something that can be fleshed out. The clouds disabling Sunflowers isn't a problem when the cost and recharge speeds for plants are halved, there is no challenge when you can spam more frequently during what's supposed to be the main "challenge". RIP Mode is just Adventure+ with nothing new to it. The art for RIP Mode, while nice, is just the base lawn at sunset (during day) and a pinkish purple hue over it, can't forget the incredibly loud guitar riffs they were going to have played every time a plant gets eaten! The turbo button is a nice quality of life edition, except I have a problem with it just like most of this game. Unlike in PVZ2 where it's easy accessible and right next to the pause button, the turbo button in Replanted is tucked away right above the progress bar and leaves to it being annoying to press most of the time, not helped by the fact it's a tiny dinky button. It going up to x2.5 speed is nice, but if you don't know about the keybind it's a hassle to even swap between speeds, why can't it be right next to the shovel? Why can't I go from x1.5 speed back to x1? The addition of keybinds are a godsend but for the love of god why can you not change them and why does the game not tell you they exist? It just leads to them being forgotten and obscured for no reason. The sun magnet doesn't even pick up coins which is annoying for x2.5 speed. The concept art gallery has fraudulent images disguised as "concept art", with there being concept art for Disco Zombie despite the fact Rich Werner himself stated there was never concept art for him. There's concept art for earlier designs of Sunflower, but for some reason it's claiming to be an older build (1.0) meanwhile a build near final release is right next to it and it's listed as 0.93. Some concept art is for other editions of PVZ1 which is nice, but most of it just comes from The Art of Plants Vs Zombies so this being advertised as "never before seen" is a blatant lie. The retro skins should of just been the DS sprites, and yet we get anything but. Skins are underbaked and underutilized, you don't even get Great Wall skins for beating the Great Wall level. There's no option to enable the Christmas costumes, PVZ2 Cabbage Pult costume or Backup Dancer costume so why have skins in the first place? That's about everything I can remember to write, I might have forgotten a lot and poorly made this review but I think my point is still gotten across. I really wanted this remaster to be good, but this review is like kicking down on a baby, it can't fight back and is struggling to live in the first place. You can see other reviews for this game for more issues and complaints about Replanted, this game is not worth it and you should just buy GOTY instead. Do better. -
Not recommended Posted November 1, 2025 on Steam I for sure had some fun playing this game but I would be lying if I said it didn’t bother me, this game is genuinely insulting beyond belief. From the AI upscaling, to the fact that they didn't even bother contacting the original creators, everything this “remaster” stands for is a joke and it makes me sad what the series has turned into, even the marketing of it was just filled with blatant lies, and cringey moments. This was the perfect opportunity to make the definitive version of PvZ, a game that has had dozens of versions released over the years, all of which are slightly different. It would’ve been awesome to see all of them merge together and make this the most content rich version of it. But they didn’t do that, hell they didn’t even do the bare minimum of making it functional, This isn’t like a broken game or anything, but there are so many little annoying oversights, graphical errors and little small glitches that pile up. Seriously, how is the original PvZ from 2009, a game that is stuck in a resolution of 600:800 more polished then this??? How do you fumble the ball that badly?????? Plants vs. Zombies will always be fun, even if it's the most sloppily put together version of it. The original developers made an absolute classic that I will forever cherrish, it just makes me sad how EA and Modern Popcap have treated the IP in the last few years. Please don't buy this game, Buy GOTY edition instead. -
Not recommended Posted April 13, 2026 on Steam This Game is Absolutely NOT worth the 20 bucks. Just get the GOTY Edition and you spare 15 bucks AND still have like 90% of the game's features. This game has lots of bugs, which i don't think EA will fix them anytime soon. -
Not recommended Posted October 23, 2025 on Steam dynamic audio, a feature from the game from more than 15 YEARS AGO, not being here is actually crazy to me. It's always the full version with all the instruments?? This isn't the definitive way to play, far from it. The console PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are still the best way to play, and I'm disappointed more features from that didn't come to this game: You could upgrade and customise your house with leaderboards, and there was way more menus (prettier than what this game has) for all the extra modes, and letters from the zombies.. Also: they won't do online VS when peggle on the xbox 360 had online multiplayer AND won't allow steam remote play for even any online play at all?? Not contacting any of the original creators of the game and including 'concept art' from other plants vs zombies games and labelling it as concept art for this game is crazy. I'd say do better, but popcap is a husk of it's former self and EA is being bought out by the saudis. R.I.P. edit: dynamic audio, remote play, keybinds and a 'collect a suns' button is now in the game, so between those features and the plethera of bug fixes in the four patches this game has had, i now think this is best way to play on pc (aside from a emulated console port). i like the cloudy day and r.i.p. modes and while i still wish this was better, i think it's good enough. i just want this franchise to succeed (pvz 2 pc port when?). i also don't know if mouse mode on switch 2 has been fixed yet. -
Not recommended Posted October 23, 2025 on Steam These lazy pigs couldn't even size any of the plants' seed icons properly, so why would you spend your money on this game. Ea clearly doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥
