Recommended Posted April 18, 2026 on Steam Mixed tbh. I returned it because it was not what I was waiting for. Brilliant visuals. But it is just a platformer/brawler with pretty simple mechanics. I'm putting thumbs up because game deserves it just not my cup of tea. -
Recommended Posted April 28, 2026 on Steam After a long wait and several delays, the game finally released in 2026. I have to admit, the first thing that immediately captivated me was the visuals. The retro-futuristic art style with a cyberpunk feel is truly one of the best in its genre. Every frame looks like a living digital painting, and the atmosphere created by Sad Cat Studios is incredibly rich, truly conveying the loneliness and violence of the world within the Phoenix Corporation. The pixel art and dynamic lighting are incredible. The city and industrial districts feel incredibly immersive, and the premise of an AI trapped in a human body is intriguing and executed with a fairly intense pace. Character movement feels agile, fluid, and responsive, especially when moving between platforms or engaging in combat. The audio design and soundtrack perfectly complement the dystopian atmosphere, heightening the tension at key moments. While the combat feels stylish, the mechanics can sometimes feel shallow after nearly 16.7 hours of play. Some platforming segments feel repetitive or less challenging once you've mastered the movement patterns. There are times when the narrative feels slow midway through the game, sapping the momentum built up early on. Some of the side missions feel like routine tasks rather than enriching experiences for the main story. Replaced isn't a perfect game, but it's a remarkable visual achievement for its developers. However, as a fan of cinematic platformers with a sharp pixel art aesthetic, I found it to be a perfect fit for all aspects of the game. This is a great start for Sad Cat Studios, and I certainly hope to see further improvements in future releases. 💯 -

Not recommended Posted April 15, 2026 on Steam Pretty art design, nice OST, abysmal game design. The saddest and probably most annoying thing about the game is all its problems become very apparent in the second half of the game, while the first part manages to appear enjoyable. 1) The game does not respect your time: checkpoints become less frequent the closer you are to the end, making you pointlessly walk to the enemy arenas, forcing you to go through platforming puzzles over and over again or throwing rooms and rooms and rooms of enemies at you. 2) The combat can feel satisfying and look flashy but most of the time feels clunky, random and unresponsive. The character does not turn around when you want him to, making you shoot in the wrong direction. Enemies overlap their attacks, which does not let you actually interact with the various combat mechanics and forces you to take unnecessary hits. Different types of enemies outright do not let you hit others while they are all bunched up, which happens a lot. 3) The story tries to be emotional and thought-provoking but did nothing for me personally. 4) Puzzles are mindnumbingly boring and uninspired. 5) Platforming becomes stale very fast. 6) The game does not have much of ...anything in terms of variety, making you go through the same ♥♥♥♥ again and again until the end. 7) "Stealth" parts where you have to hide from turrets or drones are annoying as ♥♥♥♥, yet again wasting your time for no reason. 8) The game really lacks voices. Going through the entire game with so much dialogue would definitely be more enjoyable if characters actually spoke. 9) It is just not that fun in general, which is very subjective but does not make it less true for me. I wanted to like this game but I ended up hating the whole experience which I certainly did not expect. If necessary, play it through on easy or medium. Hard can be challenging but not in a good way due to clunky combat and lack of checkpoints. -
Not recommended Posted April 24, 2026 on Steam I really want to recommend REPLACED, but after playing through the game and completing everything I just can't. Positive things first, I love the artstyle of the game. I'm a sucker for scifi and cyberpunk in general and team here have done a fantastic job at creating a bladerunner-esque environment. There is a nice variety of environments you'll spend your time in and every now and then the game pauses to really let you soak in some of the scenes they are most proud of. The music and general soundtrack also does a great job in enhancing the atmosphere, quiet when neccesary, ramping up when most thematic. You can also collect soundtracks during the game if you ever want to stop and just listen to them - although you can't listen to them while actually playing the game which is something I will get to. Storywise and worldbuilding-wise I am also really happy with how the developers have made an effort to make everything feel lived in and not just set-pieces for the player to move through. You won't be having any indepth discussion with NPCs but there are enough named characters to interact with, background scenes, lore documents, and side quests to give the world the neccesary depth that other games can often miss. I won't go into any details on the story itself, but it progresses naturally enough that I wasn't pulled out by "stupid decisions". Now unfortunately to the negative, and that's the gameplay. There are three main gameplay elements to REPLACED, the exploring and puzzles, the platforming, and the combat. None of these are inherently bad in their core design, but it seems like at anytime where there was a decision to be made between gameplay and style, gameplay was sacrified. Exploring and puzzles you would think shouldn't be impacted by gameplay sacrifice much, however the devs for some reason decided to frequently prevent back tracking even when environmentally it would make sense - arbitarily locking doors or just refusing to let the player move in a direction. This meant that if the player explored too far in the "correct" direction, they would get locked out of going back for the collectible scans, music tracks, or stat upgrades. To compound this issue the developers have not allowed for any save loading or chapter picking - you either restore your most recent checkpoint or you start the game again from the beginning. Platforming (and I'm including the chase sequences here) is relatively straight foward, however it leans towards to precision side of platformers and the controls just are not responsive enough for this style. Either there is some kind of delay or button-press required before the game registers input or I suspect the character is locked to animations so if you press jump after stepping forward the character has to complete the forward step before jumping - which is annoying when platforming without time restrictions and frustrating when you do have time restrictions. Very rarely does a platforming death feel fair, instead feeling like you've been fighting with the controls. Combat also suffers from the control issue - which is dissapointing because the combat has clearly had quite a bit of thought into it and progresses quite nicely in complexity through the game. You start with basic melee, dodge, and parry system, then you then get a ranged attack. Enemies get shields/armour which results in you getting a shield/armour breaking attack, enemies get ranged attacks and you get a ranged parry. By the end of the game you have a relatively complex but not confusing combat system with enough options to keep you on your toes without overwhelming you. The problem is that as combat gets more complex you need pick between more options faster and faster, and the control issue mentioned above causes this to result in taking unfair damage. You've pressed the attack button but now an enemy across the screen is shooting at you, too bad you can't parry that because you're stuck in the attack animation - or maybe you're not stuck in the attack animation and the game just doesn't react to your button press. I don't know what the cause of it is but there were many occasions where my character would just get hit because the game wasn't registering my button inputs. Add in issues with the larger groups of enemies such as non-shielded enemies getting in the way of the shield breaker attack at the last moment - or worse - enemies pulling out weapons and hitting you while your character is in the shield breaker animation and you being unable to do anything because for some reason the shield breaker attack animation is long enough for enemies to start and finish an attack before you finish and cause you to not only get hit, but then cancel your animation. As with the platforming, rarely do combat deaths feel fair. By the end of the game I was completely fed up with the combat. I played through the game and completed everything in just under 12 hours according to the save file. I restarting the game from scratch once when I realised I had missed some early scans and made a habit of backing up my save files so I could actually go back if I missed other scans without restarting entirely. I enjoyed a lot of my time with REPLACED but I was ready for it to be over about an hour before it ended. If the developers ever address the issues with the controls and the checkpoints/saves then I would be happy to recommend this. REPLACED has a lot to offer and I would be excited to see more done with this artstyle and/or world. However in its current state give this a miss. -
Not recommended Posted April 15, 2026 on Steam I'm tired. Tired of game design that confuses tediousness with challenge, and obfuscation with puzzles. I was really looking forward to this game. The art style, the story, sound, music, all fantastic. The gameplay underneath? Infuriating. Dear developers, if you want to make a trial-and-error platformer, make checkpoints aplenty. Don't force me to find my way through the visual clutter of multiple parallax layers of obstacles in a soup of bad visibility, all while having a one-shot-death mechanic looming over me if I don't manage to do all that within a 1 or 2 second window, and resetting me 15 to 30 seconds back to try again. Unless you have a very high tolerance for extremely repetitive trial-and-error platforming challenges at near-zero visibility, I cannot recommend this game at all, as much as it pains me considering how good the art and presentation are.
