• Recommended Posted August 14, 2025 on Steam While on vacation this year I realized I forgot my laptop mouse. This turned out to be a good thing after I decided to take a shot at Roadwarden due to the dialogue based gameplay. This game is nothing short of excellent. If you're a big reader and enjoy fantasy settings this game is 100% worth it. What this game lacks in graphics and gameplay it makes up for with a branching plot, multiple dialogue choices that feel like they matter, and well written text. Often with games like this I find myself save scumming because of frustrating trial and error style gameplay. Not with Roadwarden. I find myself preparing carefully and gathering information about what kind of threats or people I may encounter. For example: You help an innkeeper with a few tasks gaining his trust. He then opens up to you about another factions leader and passively mentions that they only care about business and hates people who waste their time with idle chitchat. Later when you find yourself talking to that faction leader you remember the comment the innkeeper made and when given the option for friendly banter you hold back. This gives a good impression and gets you started on the right foot with them. Its just really cool when you find yourself balancing sensitive political or social situations and manipulating people to keep them happy while secretly trying to further your own motives and you pull it off successfully. There's a lot here and its well done. Obviously this type of game isn't for everyone but if you like this kind of thing I highly recommend playing this game.

• Recommended Posted June 19, 2025 on Steam Roadwarden is an absolutely fantastic game. In the 15 hours it took me to complete my first playthrough, I got to explore a living, breathing world with unique characters having their own beliefs, problems and cultures. There is a time limit on this game. You can choose to play with or without it. On your first playthrough, I would highly recommend playing with the standard time limit. Why? Without giving away spoilers, the time limit adds more than just tension. It subtly reinforces one of the game’s most powerful themes: that time is finite. You can’t do everything. You can’t help everyone. Just like in real life, you must make choices, live with the consequences, and accept that some doors will close. Roadwarden is one of the most uniquely enjoyable experiences I've ever had the pleasure of playing. While it's replayability value is low (especially if you choose the unlimited time difficulty), in the 15 - 25 hours of playing the game, you will have a meaningful experience worth having. That being said, even with the unlimited time difficulty, this game is still a fantastic adventure with great writing and a fun experience. Though I sincerely hope you choose to play with the standard time limit on your first playthrough. A great thank you to the developers for making this gem. I'm very grateful to have had the experience of playing this wonderful game!
• Recommended Posted December 20, 2025 on Steam
Nothing but praise for Roadwarden
For a game which consists mainly of reading words, I ironically can't find the words to truly capture what I find so special about Roadwarden. This is a game for those who enjoy being drawn into a realistic fantasy world, who love to drown in descriptive prose and ambient music. And for those who enjoy true consideration, real choices that aren't simple binaries between good ending and bad ending. I implore you not to reload saves, to look up answers, or to play without the time pressure. Let events lie where they will, as the game does an excellent job of making adventures plagued by mistakes and misfortune still worth playing. And after experiencing all your adventure has to offer, I hope that you too will see every regret as a new opportunity to be explored by a very different protagonist in a second playthrough. The mark of a great piece of art is that feeling of disappointment in its ending, in wishing that you could experience it for just another minute, hour, day. A wonderful thing about this game is that I was able to return, living within this world for much longer than I thought possible. Even after four playthroughs there are still secrets I yearn to uncover with a fifth, and moments I want to feel one more time. I am grateful that this game exists and that I got to experience it. In several years I know I will once again return to this beautiful world and wade through its words anew.
• Recommended Posted December 8, 2025 on Steam No game is as brilliantly human as Roadwarden. You feel vulnerable but capable, you use your wits, tools, and fellow man to try to tame your part of a harsh world, you take a drink of cool water and a deep breath after a scrap with an animal or tough climb. You feel alive. Roadwarden is like a good book and a long hike in the woods put together. A moment of reflection in a busy world to make you appreciate the everyday. It is an absolute masterpiece and I cannot recommend it more.
• Recommended Posted November 27, 2025 on Steam I don't know what I expected from this game, and I'll be honest, I forgot I even bought it. I've never really played one of these games, although I did have a demo for one of the Myst titles back in the day. This game was one of the best experiences I've had playing video games ever. I never allowed myself to look up how to complete a task or get past an event (the game makes it super easy to experiment with its very accessible quicksave/load) and figuring out an encounter or puzzle or even parts of the lore was one of the most satisfying experience I've had in games. I don't know how to say this without sounding cringe, but this game -- it's world, it's cast cast of characters -- comes to life in your hands. Worth every penny, very sad to go back to Hovlanan.
