Recommended Posted December 24, 2025 on Steam This completely blindsided me. Not just as a game, but as something I got to properly share with my son. We jumped in thinking we knew what we were doing. We absolutely did not. Those early hours were brutal in the best way. Every creature felt deadly. We were always hungry & thirsty, under-geared, constantly lost and getting wiped by basically anything we came across. But that struggle is what made it special. Sitting there side by side, laughing at how bad we were, dying, resetting and trying again. It genuinely felt like the start of a real adventure. Slowly things started to click. We found our rhythm. Learned when to fight, when to run, how to prep properly and actually survive instead of just reacting. Watching my son go from panicking at everything to confidently calling out plans, locations and ideas was insanely rewarding. The game doesn’t hold your hand, and because of that every bit of progress feels earned. We pushed deep into the world, eventually completing the dragon slayer quest - adventuring across the treacherous Fellhollow and making sure we unlocked everything we possibly could. Quests big and small, exploration, vaults. It all felt meaningful and worth doing. The world constantly rewards curiosity and there was always something pulling us forward. Then came the moment I’ll never forget. My son, who’s still very young, managed to defeat the mighty Imaru with me on our second attempt. The final boss mechanics in the current expansion are genuinely excellent. It reminded me a lot of early Destiny. Cleansing ourselves of the soul rifting, swapping between realms to stun the boss so the instant wipe mechanic didn’t delete the run, then making the most of the damage phases when they opened up. It demanded coordination, not just brute force. When we finally brought the dragon down, my son completely lost it. Pure excitement, yelling, laughing, unable to contain himself. One of those gaming moments you don’t forget. Something I’ll genuinely cherish. Looking at the roadmap and what’s still to come, here’s to many more experiences like this. I can’t recommend this game enough if you’re looking for a survival game that’s masterfully wound with the quirkiness of RuneScape, but built on a much more modern engine with huge potential. As a dad, this wasn’t just a great game. It was a shared adventure. 🤝 -
Not recommended Posted October 2, 2025 on Steam A Great Start, Wasted Momentum When RuneScape: Dragonwilds launched on April 15, 2025, it showed incredible promise. The early game was a blast—questing, hunting, and gearing up for that first big boss fight. The dragon encounter, backed by waves of lesser monsters, set expectations sky-high. It felt like the start of something special. But here we are, seven months later, and the game has gone nowhere. Instead of meaningful updates, players have been fed scraps: localization fixes and cosmetic tweaks. That’s it. No new quests, no new bosses, no new areas. The one dragon fight is still the peak of the game—and then nothing. A Game With No Reason to Play I’m not someone who usually focuses on base-building, but when the map is this small and the quests are this limited, I had no choice but to build just to keep myself engaged. And when that’s exhausted, the game hits a dead stop. There’s no reason to log back in. That’s not just disappointing—it’s unacceptable for an early access title that was marketed as a living, evolving experience. The Community Is Losing Faith Players are starting to call this what it looks like: a cash grab. Small, meaningless updates are being pushed as if they matter, while the actual game remains stagnant. It feels like the developers care more about keeping the storefront active than actually delivering content. And honestly? At this point, I agree with them. When the community that once cheered you on begins to believe you’ve abandoned the project, that’s not on us—that’s on you. Trust is being broken, and once it’s gone, it doesn’t come back. Step Up, or Lose the Game Entirely RuneScape: Dragonwilds had the potential to stand alongside some of the best survival-action RPGs out there. But potential means nothing without follow-through. If the developers don’t start releasing substantial updates—new areas, new monsters, new bosses, new quests—then this game will go down as yet another early access title that died before it ever really lived. You built something exciting. But right now, you’re letting it rot. It’s time to step up and prove that this isn’t just a cash grab. Because if nothing changes soon, the community will move on—and all that potential will be wasted. -
Not recommended Posted August 31, 2025 on Steam There's Early Access and there's Runescape: Dragonwilds. This game is about two years away from being eligible for Early Access. It is so bare bones and devoid of content that it belongs in the same category with literal scam games like The Day Before. For anyone familiar with Runescape, Dragonwilds released without Magic or Range Skills, and its end game weaponry being Iron. That should give you an idea of how unfinished this embarrassment is. The Devs produced a roadmap after three months of radio silence saying that they'll get to Steel in December 2025, and the rest will run up to 2027. Not to mention the mass layoffs at Jagex DAYS after Dragonwilds release, and all of the interactions the Devs have had with the community seems to be focused around 'We are still here!' and 'This game is definitely not dead we promise!'. There are barely 500 people playing this on the busiest days, content updates are minuscule and deliberately drip-fed to give the illusion of progression. Most importantly, don't forget that Jagex is owned by a Private Equity Firm, if Dragonwilds doesn't print money the the team will get fired and the game will be taken off the life support mode its currently on. I've seen claims of over a million copies sold, but peak player count was around 50,000, so that seems extremely unlikely. Current player count is now one hundredth of that, meaning they have literally lost 99% of their player base. I accidently left the game running over the weekend after leaving the house, so I can't get a refund, but I can at the very least try to prevent any one else from making the same mistake. Save your money, or buy Valheim or Enshrouded. Or get a pizza, it'll last longer than this game. -
Not recommended Posted June 26, 2025 on Steam Do not buy this game. They made a very bare bones rip off of other crafting games and have a product roadmap all the way out to 2028 for basic additions to BASIC skills. Feels like a money grab that abuses the 'early access' moniker. -
Not recommended Posted June 27, 2025 on Steam Do not buy this game. They released it with nothing. The road map has nothing major planned until next year while the updates just keep getting delayed. This is a scam at the moment. If this game didn't have "RUNESCAPE" in the title, it would have far less positive reviews. -
Recommended Posted December 16, 2025 on Steam I’m mostly a solo PC gamer, and RuneScape: Dragonwilds completely pulled me in. I never played classic RuneScape growing up, but this game made me understand the hype instantly. The progression feels earned, the world is dangerous in the right ways, and the building system is incredibly satisfying. You truly start from nothing and build yourself up piece by piece, and that sense of growth never gets old. I’m over 50 hours in and still having a blast. Exploration, combat, crafting, and base-building all work together in a way that keeps you hooked. It scratches that RPG itch in a way a lot of modern games miss. Honestly, it’s up there with the best RPGs I’ve played — and I’d even put it above Fable at this point. Can’t wait to see how much more they add.
