Not recommended Posted May 13, 2026 on Steam Rare employee's are covering up pedophilic actions and bad actors in their community. I cannot in good faith recommend this game whilst Community Managers, Creators and Rare Employees are allowing and defending actions that harm it's younger user base. -

Not recommended Posted July 21, 2025 on Steam I’ve been playing since launch and got Pirate Legend, but the PvP in this game is a joke. It’s mostly toxic groups ganking solo players nonstop, stealing everything, and making the game frustrating. Combat is clunky. What’s really dumb is how the game locks most progression and rewards behind High Seas PvP, but everything you earn is cosmetic. So basically, if you want to enjoy the full game without getting your loot stolen every five minutes, tough luck. You either deal with griefers or get a half-baked PvE experience with caps and limits. And the PvP crowd? Even when you make good points about wanting a fair PvE experience, they just ignore you or insult you. They refuse to have a real conversation and just call you a “casual” or “whiner” instead of listening. They don’t want or care to understand that some of us just want to enjoy the game without harassment. Which brings me back to how everything you earn is cosmetic, it’s idiotic gatekeeping just so they can continue to troll and treat everyone else who doesn’t share their view like dirt. More people would probably join and stick around if the PvE experience was actually supported and rewarding. Plenty of players want to enjoy the world, stories, and co-op without the stress of PvP, but right now it feels like those players are punished or ignored. Rare needs to stop locking stuff behind PvP griefing and support players who want to enjoy the game their way. Until then, this game feels like a toxic mess for anyone who just wants to chill and have fun. -
Not recommended Posted October 30, 2025 on Steam The game is cool, love it. BUT as a new player/not reaper tryharding person, feels like half the time you will get raided by someone who's goal is just making the game unfun for everybody else. No matter if you have something in your ship, no matter if you run, their only goal will be to destroy your ship, gain nothing, and do it again -
Recommended Posted November 25, 2025 on Steam If you’re feeling that pang of nostalgia “the old days with friends” this game really scratches that itch. The unplanned moments, the shared laughter when someone misreads a map, the scramble to plug holes mid-storm… these are the moments you remember, not the grind. "10% of this game is sailing… the other 90% is screaming at skeletons." 11/10 <3. -
Not recommended Posted September 24, 2025 on Steam This is the first time I've reviewed any game, ever. And I'm reviewing it because there is no other place where I'm allowed to voice my disgust without having my opinions moderated or deleted. The game is great. But the community is comprised of the most toxic and idiotic people I have ever met. If you do not have at least 1 friend who is willing to play this game with you consistently, you will NOT have fun playing solo. I know there are plenty of games that are "more fun with friends", but those friends are essential here. If you play solo, it is your job to man the cannons, steer the ship, angle the sails, repair holes, and bail out water...all at the same time. Dying once often means your ship is sunk by the time you respawn. And sinking happens OFTEN. This playerbase is incredibly bloodthirsty... No loot? No emissary flag? No provocation? Doesn't matter. Once you are spotted by another ship, there is a 99% chance they will chase you to the ends of the earth for HOURS, gaining nothing from destroying you, aside from the satisfaction of knowing they've ruined your gaming experience and wasted your time. I cannot begin to tell you how many 4-man Galleon crews have hopped on their microphones to talk trash as if sinking a solo player in a Sloop was an accomplishment. The number of times I've dove (fast travel) to a Raid Voyage on an island and have come back to my unattended ship having been sunk/in the process of being sunk...I've lost track. I've clocked myself: I can do Skeleton Camps and Ashen Lords in under 5 minutes from the time I dive until the time I complete the voyage. That window is plenty massive for the majority of players to ruin your experience. Unfortunately, the people who are looking to join your crew and make friends are no better... I joined a guild during my first month. I left that guild because after 3 hours of farming loot with my duo partner (who was the guild leader) on a Sloop, he decided to ragequit mid-fight after dying ONCE. I was still talking to him, giving callouts for a solid 2-3 minutes before I realized he never respawned and had stepped away. By the time he got back, I had sunk. He told me that after he had died, he thought I'd sunk and had stepped away to have a smoke. When I voiced my disgust, he gave no apology and told me that he would leave me alone to "process how I feel". After that, I joined 3 different Discords servers dedicated to this game to try and find crewmates. Aside from the official Discord, those channels are absolutely dead...nobody wants to play with you unless you're max-level PvPer. Anyway, two nights ago, I had a guy join who had zero patience for anything. I told him what I was farming, he agreed, joined, and wanted to do anything else...he wanted to fight players, fight the Burning Blade, do a Smuggler's voyage, when I stated exactly what I was doing in the channel before he even joined it. Once I finished what I was farming, I disconnected and removed that player. Immediately afterwards, I have a 14-year-old kid join my channel and just start speaking gibberish. He wouldn't leave, he wouldn't join, and when I complained about him to the server mods, he tried to pretend I was bullying him and making fun of him for not speaking English. Then last night, which was really the tipping point, I got a player who joined and seemed promising. But he spent half the session AFK trying to recover his old Xbox account, and the other half NOT listening to me (never stayed to protect the ship despite me constantly asking him to). Realizing this, I lied and told him I was going offline. He left the channel, but not the crew. On a Sloop, with only 2 crewmates, the only way this game functions is with a majority vote when it comes to kicking players...so even as the Captain of the ship, I cannot remove this guy from my crew. He then went AFK for a solid 30 minutes, but was in the in-game shop, so he was never disconnected due to inactivity. This forced me to leave the server to resupply my boat from scratch, while also having to re-grind to Emissary Grade 5 again...I wasted more than 2 hours with this guy, which I will never get back. The problem with this game is that they want you to interact with other players...but those interactions are almost always negative. Everything is either kill on sight or an eventual betrayal. And this is one of those games where you can spend HOURS trying to get something done, and accomplish nothing...you can dive to a Raid Voyage and surface RIGHT NEXT TO another player's ship...now you have to fight for your life instead of doing whatever you planned to do, have fun. Take a look at SteamCharts, this month is the first time this game has ever dipped below a 5,000 player count. And you know what? It deserves it. I've only been playing for 2 months, and my new player experience has been absolutely terrible. There's no way newer players are going to enjoy this game if they can expect to be pounded by every player they run into. If they ever incorporate a solo-only server, maybe I'd give it another shot...but you need friends to enjoy this, and if you don't have any, the players who want to be your friends suck almost as much as the enemy. This game, and especially this community, deserves its death.
