Recommended Posted July 14, 2025 on Steam Slender Threads is a point and click adventure game with a really strange unique story. The game takes place in a small weird town where you walk up and down approximately 4-5 streets, enter stores, talk to interesting characters, and solve puzzles. The whole game takes place at night and has a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. The main game took 5 hours to complete and there is a short epilogue after the game is done that took around 20 minutes to finish. + The hand drawn art style is fantastic. Lots of beautiful locations to explore and fast travel was a helpful feature. + The voice acting is terrific, very professional. Each character you meet has a very unique voice. A+ Top Tier. + There is Zero pixel hunting in this game, which is awesome. Some people say the puzzles are easy in this game, but I think the puzzles are just right in difficulty. I only got stuck once where I would have never thought to use an item in a certain place. 99% of the puzzles are achievable on your own without a guide. + Lots of humour and well written dialog. + Excellent sound effects, design and clarity. +/- The story starts off amazing with wonder and mystery, but then completely takes a nose dive near the end of the game. +/- The music in the game is an original score. It is serviceable but nothing really stood out as fantastic or memorable. - The ending and epilogue are very divisive in reviews. I am in the camp where I thought both were absolutely horrible. I won't get into it for spoilers sake but it basically ruined the game for me and brought down my score immensely. I get what the developers were trying to convey but to me the whole thing just fell flat like a dirty pancake and I wanted it to end. - The game is priced high for the length and what you get. The game is quality in design, its just a real shame where the developers took the ending of the story. Cautiously recommended. Overall: 6/10 -
Recommended Posted September 28, 2025 on Steam Highly recommended. Vastly exceeded expectations, to the point at which I felt it was (in my opinion) in the ballpark of a LucasArts point-and-click adventure. It's an ambitious game with good voice acting, story, and humor and excellent attention to detail. -
Recommended Posted September 6, 2025 on Steam A quirky tale that feels like a strange little break, mixing surreal ghost stories with a splash of black comedy. With its direction, mood, puzzles, and witty lines all working in harmony, it comes together as a smooth and highly polished game. -
Not recommended Posted February 16, 2026 on Steam Slender Threads tells the story of Harvey, an unsuccessful writer who travels to the sleepy little port town "Villa Ventana" in search of inspiration for his next book. During his stay at the local hotel, he witnesses a series of strange incidents. I had Slender Threads on my wishlist for several years and was expecting a spooky version of "Edna & Harvey" or "Deponia" with a good dose of wit. Indeed, it had all of that, but I still can't recommend it. The game has a beautiful hand-drawn art style, a perfect pinch of humor, excellent voice acting, and an interesting plot until the final chapters. I had a lot of fun for the first three hours till the story took a really weird turn. I don't want to spoiler anything, so I try to explain why Slender Threads disappointed me with a non-story related example: Imagine you buy a crime novel about a killer. You spend 8 out of 10 chapters interviewing suspects, examining crime scenes and gathering clues, and just when the tension reaches its peak and you're about to find out who the killer is, your character wakes up and realizes it was all just a dream. Would you like that? None of this actually happens, but it's quite a fitting example for the frustrating ending you get. In short: Slender Threads helps you build up a beautiful story bubble, only to pop it just before the end. If the ending had been different, I would definitely recommend it, but the last few hours completely ruined the tension of the previous chapters. I really would like to give Slender Threads a positive rating, but after all it's a point-and-click adventure, where a good storyline is key. -
Not recommended Posted October 17, 2025 on Steam The trouble with mysteries is creators can feel really satisfied by setting up a series of them that are provocative and drive the viewer forward without ever actually coming up with a compelling answer for any of it. Only after the player has reached the end will they fully appreciate that what they experienced weren't actually mysteries with compelling answers, but a series of nonsensical questions. I bought Slender Threads off the strength of Kelvin and the Infernal Machine. Slender Threads shares a lot of similarities with that game, having solid acting, interesting art, and puzzles that by in large play fair without becoming too easy. But oh man that ending absolutely soured me on the whole thing. I can't tell if they ran out of time, or just couldn't think of anything that would really put a bow on the whole thing, giving the player a satisfying conclusion. It might as well have just ended with the main character waking up in bed with a gasp and declaring that it was all just a crazy dream. If you don't actually solve the problems you create, you can't rely on that to give the player a sense of resolution. That resolution would have had to come from the protagonist actually changing or overcoming something, not just discovering the hacky twist. For those looking for some interesting puzzles with solid artwork, this is still probably worth a look. But if expect a game with a story to have a meaningful ending, this will probably annoy you. -
Recommended Posted December 18, 2025 on Steam Overall Pretty interesting game that I picked up for $9.99. Doesn't strive to do anything new other than build upon the point n click genre. The game ends on a fine note, albeit a tad rushed, and I didn't mind the ending unlike some of the negative reviews. Pros - Gorgeous animation. - Solid voice acting. - Map WITH fast travel. (Can't get one achievement if you use the fast travel though) - Interesting story as well as interesting characters. Nicely done on the setting too! - The puzzles are pretty logical especially for this type of game where they can get nonsensical quick (looking at your Deponia) - Not too long and not too short. Cons - Sometimes the game won't let you continue until you've interreacted with the correct thing prior. EX: you can't use an item on a door that you already possess until you've activated a prior action/dialogue sequence even though you've already tried using the item on the door.
