  • Recommended Posted July 2, 2025 on Steam Yes I would recommend this for the editor alone. We are using it for a game incubator program and it's fantastic, better the more you get comfortable with it. My only grip is that you can't rename the layers... if I am using this exclusively to fill out spritesheets, I want to rename things so that I'm not hunting. I also think an onion skin would do wonders. Dev's if you are listening, please add these features.
  • Recommended Posted September 14, 2025 on Steam We need the program for creating animations in this game. Aseprite is primitive. I understand that you have to work hard for animations, but not when you see that it can be done faster like the editor in this game. I am against AI, but you can't spend thousands of years in Aseprite just to make an animation. It's pure torture. Unfortunately, you won't find anything like this in the open source software sphere. Developers should clearly consider publishing separately the editor. It would be a WIN-WIN situation.
  • Recommended Posted December 26, 2025 on Steam One of the best tools for indie devs. Clean, quick, easy to use, and the 2D skeleton rigs make art MUCH less of a pain for people that don't know how to draw / people that do know how to draw and want to animate quick! The icing on the cake is the usage rights, FTU!! They don't claim any ownership of the sprites you make / animate with the program. All in all, one of the best tools out there. Also, the fighting game aspect is fun too, Smash Bros but, everyone's character gets a chance in the ring.
  • Recommended Posted November 25, 2025 on Steam Although this game hasn't got an update in years, the Workshop content for Smack Studio is what keeps this going, no matter what other people think. This feels like Super Smash Bros. X M.U.G.E.N 2D Fighter Engine all wrapped into one, but a whole lot more than meets the eye. With an in-game editor for custom characters/stages, you can pretty much come up with anything imaginable that comes into your creative mind, and best of all, play as those characters and on those stages. You want to live your dreams of fighting Dio as Goku? This is the game to play. How about something silly such as Ren VS. Jax from The Amazing Digital Circus? This is the game to play. Craving to putting yourself into the action alongside your own stage? THIS IS THE GAME TO PLAY. Smack Studio, whilst still has yet to receive word from it's new staff from ThirdPixel Interactive, is quite the fun 2.5D sandbox platform fighter that is grand for not just gamers of any kind, but also artists who wish to bring their creations to life. I'd strongly recommend looking up tutorials on YouTube and/or join the Smack Studio Discord server in case you really need help on making your creations for this game since it can be quite hard to fully master the in-game character creation tool (Alongside the stage creation tool as well).
  • Recommended Posted June 8, 2025 on Steam This is software, i don't know why they present it as a game, tax purposes? Licensing/patenting rights? The software is good, functional, and unique, so if you work with pixel art, this is a great tool to have
  • Recommended Posted March 7, 2026 on Steam I LOVE THIS GAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at the time of writing this, I already have 100 hrs and I've only had it for maybe 1 1/2 months. The selling point is obviously that you can make your own stages and characters, and the best part is that the tools in the game are extremely easy to use. for only 15 bucks you get infinite replayablity with an infinite roster, The only limit is your imagingation - Obama (I think)
