  • Recommended Posted August 18, 2025 on Steam It may not be the best racing game ever made, but it's the sheer broken aspect of this game that just makes it funnier. I've mostly played the switch version when it came out with 2 other friends, we genuinely spent afternoons playing this, from actual games to taking advantage of how broken the physics are in this game for the sake of shenanigans. Music wise, I mean it's a sonic game it rarely if not never disappoints no matter how bad the game can be. While I find the gameplay fun, I do think the game as a whole lacks different gamemodes for the sake of diversity. Now if I need to give constructive criticism, here it is: (ignoring the fact that online servers are emtpier than my head at 5am but yeah.) - AIs will actively try to bring you down, teammates or not, and in the case of the story mode it sucks even more because "some" objectives require said AIs to be good but this comes down to pure RNG whether they just play bad or get knocked in last from being unlucky. - Speaking of the story mode, ignoring the actual plot, it's a racing game y'know the drill it's whatever. However, objectives mostly for keys are a genuine pain in the butt for most of them, and the "challenge" missions are even worse. They're not fun and I do not recommend trying to 100% the story mode. - Team boost is a fun concept, but every time you activate it it's like your handling is completely turned off and you will hit every wall you see unless you drift an hour in advance and far enough. - Speaking of lack of handling, as cool as skimboosts and slingshots are, you can very much get screwed by them because (idfk how this works) the boost may vary depending on... something? which can either throw you into a wall, into the void or even out of bounds which is kinda bad. - As said, the physics in this game are a whole circus. - And finally, while it lacks gamemodes but could've still been "okay" with just this one, the game lacking also in characters to select and courses does make it boring after some time unless you truly like the game like me where I could spend entire afternoons on it. (At least the customization for your vehicles is honestly decent.) Despite it all, this game holds a solid amount of nostalgia, and I love how broken it is.
  • Not recommended Posted June 4, 2025 on Steam It's just awful. It's a major downgrade from Transformed in every conceivable way. Character roster is boring, music is generic, courses feel generic, no more boat/plane transforming. Very few power-ups and they are generic as all hell too. Overall feels like a cheap, low budget licensed kart racer like DreamWorks All-Star Kart Racing, whereas Transformed was in Mario Kart's league. This is skim milk and Transformed was whole milk. This is the "avocado mash" of guacamole.

  • Not recommended Posted June 16, 2025 on Steam I once read a review here that said this one is great for couples to enjoy together because of the team mechanic. That might have some truth to it, but I just haven't been able to enjoy a race on this game. Not yet anyway. I give it a thumbs down. I recommend Sonic Racing Transformed (above even Mario Kart). Have fun and be happy (with Sonic Racing Transformed). Go get Sonic Racing Transformed and all the DLC (except the orange charity dude).
  • Not recommended Posted July 28, 2025 on Steam It hurts to say this, but this game is a clear example of what happens when you butcher a good racing game. SASRT was far from perfect, but the gameplay loop it had was nice. Sumo Digital then grabbed SASRT, made the physics worse (somehow), introduced teamplay mechanics that only made the game unbalanced and sometimes even work against you, like the slingshot/skimboost launching you towards a wall or out of bounds, the Team Ultimate making you borderline uncontrollable, and the AI actively bringing you down since sometimes it won't matter that you finished first if your AI was dumb enough or unlucky enough to end up in the last places. And don't even get me started on the most boring story mode with such a repetitive and grindy sequence of events, only to lead to such an anticlimactic ending that, despite being disappointing, is fitting to the overall experience this game brings. Hopefully that won't happen with CrossWorlds, since we know it's not Sumo doing it this time.

I still prefer Sonic & All Star Racing Transformed because it features characters and tracks from various Sega series. Team Sonic Racing is basically a worse version of S&ASRT. They fixed that with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. (I'm still hoping that all the Sega characters from previous games will be available in the new game. And all the characters from Team Sonic Racing. Even though licensing characters from comics and video games are very costly.) The graphics and soundtrack are fantastic. The story mode is interesting. Some tracks are great (my favorite track is Sky Road), others are boring and dull. If this game had been released before S&ASRT, I might have liked it better. Don't get me wrong. Team Sonic Racing is good, and I love seeing something new (like the aspect of playing as a team to win the race and the boost strip on the ground when one of your teammates is ahead of you). Buy this game when it's on sale. If you're not sure which Sonic Racing game to buy, I recommend S&ASRT. You'll have an unforgettable experience with that game. But the decision is yours. If you're a Sonic fan and want to have all the games on PC, you can't go wrong with Team Sonic Racing. Overall, and a message to Sega: It's definitely a good racing game. And I'm thankful that it's available on PC. Now I have two questions: Could you please release more of your older games on PC (Sonic Riders, Sonic Unleashed, a remake of Sonic 06, etc.)? And is it possible for you to release these games on GOG as well? That would be great. I'm looking forward to playing more of your older games. ^^
