• Not recommended Posted August 30, 2025 on Steam Honestly, I didn’t expect this game to be so heavily aimed at a very young audience. If you have kids, this could easily be one of the best games for them. But if you’re a bit older, the charm wears off after just a couple of hours, the story feels childish and the gameplay is far too simple. You’ll move through both 2D and 3D sections, but combat is extremely basic and the map layouts are very straightforward. The core idea behind the game is fantastic, but I feel there was room for much more in terms of level design and gameplay mechanics (maybe even a bit of added challenge to keep older players engaged). I don’t want to sound harsh, but to be completely honest, considering the hours I spent finishing it, I can’t really say I had fun. Unfortunately, it’s a game that relies almost entirely on art style and is clearly targeted at a very young audience.
• Not recommended Posted September 7, 2025 on Steam I cannot recommend the game even when it it a great game for itself but with massive bug problems. i am now through about 50% of the game and had to play several parts double or trple because after nearly every boss or mission the game crashes and i ahd to amke it twice or triple times. At some parts it also crashed when hitting an tree and when i came back this tree was buggy closing the game when hitting from now on. The game it self is very good and funny and especially graphically and animation based i love it but its nearly unplayable with steady crashes. Now after i have beaten the game i must say the game itself is great and has much potential but it has a massive amount of never fixed bugs. The problems got further through the whole game and at the end ( last 45 minutes of the game) it got even more frustrating because i had 5 crashes in this time and about 10 crashes all over the rest of the game before. If you get it on a very low price you can get it because of the game itself but for the normal price its much to expensive because of the problems and bugs
• Not recommended Posted December 8, 2025 on Steam I really, really wanted to give this game the benefit of finishing it before I decided how I felt about it, because it's clear a lot of care and passion went into this, but it got to a point where it felt more like a chore than anything else. The presentation is, obviously, quite good. The storybook style and even the world outside the pages are brought to life just about as well as you could ask for, but that's about where my praise ends. It's not that there's any element of this game that felt egregiously bad, but nothing really gripped me, either? The story is there, and is inoffensive but 6 chapters in didn't give me anything to really hook onto. The gameplay is fine, but not particularly deep and the puzzles rarely require much thought. If there was one real, bona-fide negative it'd have to be how slow a lot of actions are. Jumping in and out of pages (something you'll be doing a lot) requires holding a button rather than just pressing it, adding a delay every time even though you have to stand in a specific spot to do it anyways, so you'd be unlikely to do it on accident even if it was just a tap. Turning pages in the book is also agonizingly slow--sometimes you'll turn back to the start of the chapter to check if anything useful is there, and it'll take a full 30 seconds to turn back to the page you actually need to be on because the turning doesn't speed up the longer you hold it. Those might sound like small gripes in the grand scheme of things, but they really can grind the game to a halt, especially when you have to do them fairly frequently. I don't feel great about having to give this game a negative review, but I do feel like for the reputation it has the game ended up falling short. Others have said this might be a great game for kids, which I can't really speak to, but I wonder if the gameplay would be enough to keep them engaged. It'd probably be enough for really young kids, but then this game is wordy enough that I worry they wouldn't be able to properly engage with the story (not to mention things like the chapter full of classic art references that won't land at all). The best case might be something for a parent to play along with their kid to help them with the reading, but as a solo game it's hard for me to pin down exactly who this is for.
• Not recommended Posted February 22, 2026 on Steam I wanted to write a good review for this game, because even though it didn't fit my usual vibe for games - it was still cute, the artwork and style were neat and the mini-games were pretty funny. I really can't though because even after it's been out like a year and a half it still suffers from bugs that can softlock your game. This requires you to restart from earlier saves it makes, but just wastes so much time. The game wasn't difficult but between the softlocks, the janky hitboxes, and the total lack of difficulty, I just couldn't bring myself to finish it.
• Recommended Posted July 14, 2025 on Steam The Plucky Squire is an okay game, my recommendation would be for anyone 13 years or younger to play this as it doesn't feel like its rewarding enough otherwise. Anyone with some decent gaming experience under their belt won't get enough from this game as it feels like it doesn't fully commit to what ultimately could've been a grand adventure game. The game's unique puzzles that play on the "Story Book" that you're playing the game from are cool at first but don't really have enough dimension to feel rewarding. Everything feels very surface level overall despite having some really cool "bones" to the puzzles, platforming, and gameplay. This is not to say you won't enjoy your time with it. This is something that I believe would work well with parents and younger people who are looking for an adventure game. If this game had more depth to the mechanic's they introduce I think they could've had something all ages could appreciate. I still recommend this game, but again, not for the well experienced gamer.
• Recommended Posted August 25, 2025 on Steam Not every game should be big, epic, and serious. This one is short, lighthearted, and amusing. The puzzles are not too complex, the platforming sections are not demanding, and the stealthy bits are very unlikely to make you rage-quit. It works great as a family-friendly game, but us, adults, can enjoy it too. The enjoyment could be more complete, if those broken rhythm-game-boss-fights actually followed the...well, rhythm, but we've only got the two of them, so I can't complain.
