  • Recommended Posted May 11, 2026 on Steam This game is completely mad but clearly a labor of love. It's not just a FlatOut clone, it also contains Tokyo Xtreme Racer, Blur, Destruction Derby, Dirt Rally, bits of MotorStorm and I wouldn't be surprised if it suddenly turned into Wipeout. You'd think these modes would feel half-assed, but they don't, they're perfectly fine as an arcade racer. I even prefer this to FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage, the physics are more predictable and the enemies aren't being butts as much. The cutscenes are the epitome of cringe, often the voice actors (who seem to sometimes be the devs themselves?) don't even say the same lines as in the subtitles. The banter between drivers makes zero sense to me, maybe it was funny in Ukrainian? Mihalych will say things like "There is a criminal someone here!", "Excuse me! Keep on eating" or "I have no beer. Back off." when passing opponents, with all the emotional range of a cucumber. And he channels the worst aspects of Borat when he says "I laaf Asian women!" as he passes Yuji Than, the inexplicably pan-South-East-Asian woman with the Japanese first and Myanmar-Cambodian-Thai-Vietnamese last name who wears a racing suit labeled in Korean. This isn't even the worst yet, nothing will prepare you for the gripping interplay between Mihalych and his friend Zhenka (the guy wearing the gas mask). The cars are hella cute, from Soviet models to U.S. muscle cars, SUVs and Hummers, buggies and karts, everything is represented. But no official licenses, of course. They do have distinct handling, but I have to confess I didn't really notice much of it until I hit the A-class cars. On the technical side, yeah, the engine struggles sometimes. I get framerates between 50 and 120 depending on the track and number of effects, so far the Tokyo track at night in rain is the worst. Usually it's still very playable but I don't like how it stutters when (I presume) it's loading new scenery sometimes. I hope the sequel will be smoother. Highly recommended in any sale for anyone who likes FlatOut or slightly janky racing games. It more than delivers. I'm planning to get the DLC when I'm done with the campaign. Bonus: The terrible driver banter reminded me of a "joke" an Azerbaijani friend once told us when we were kids. It goes: "A man comes into the forest one day and spots two eyes in a hole in a tree trunk. They were very red. So he asks, 'Who are you?' The owner of the eyes responds, 'I am a mouse.' So the man asks 'What are you doing?' - 'I am taking a dump.'" (That's all. That's the joke.)
  • Recommended Posted January 9, 2026 on Steam A little rough round the edges and gives a dodgy first impression with the beginning car's handling. Push through the first hour though and it's basically a new flat out game. Look forward to the next one
  • Recommended Posted July 9, 2025 on Steam If you've ever heard someone say "It's fun until it's not fun" - Trail Out is exactly that kind of game. It has so many pieces right in the recipe for lots of fun, with lots very well made tracks with heaps of destructible objects, a impressive car list, and gameplay that's generally easy to pick up and very enjoyable to tear through with. That is, until you clip that one object that *isn't* destructable and you're brought to a standstill, likely about to be struck by the horde of cars you were formerly leading against. Or the game decides your impact is arbitrarily strong enough to catapult you out of the windshield, sending you back to 8th place. Or the AI decides it's going to glue itself to your car, slowing you down to the point all your positions are lost. Or you hit an inline in the terrain slightly too aggressively and your car flips over like a paper plane, forcing you to manually reset. Or a random tractor or train or cargo truck happens to drive across your path and force you to either take extreme evasive action or - more likely - slam into it and lose heaps of time. These aren't necessarily frequent occurences, but all it takes is one occurence over the course of a race to make you write off the race and slam that Restart button in the pause menu, and it's never a good experience having an otherwise highly enjoyable race ended by something so arbitrary. I admit though, I'm mostly venting here - and I wouldn't feel so strongly if it wasn't otherwise an incredibly fun racing game, when you aren't necessarily too focused to the podium finish. The career mode is especially addictive, constantly throwing new car and track combinations at you, leaving you eager to find out what's next. While the story itself is pretty nonexistent, I can't help but enjoy the poorly acted but nonetheless amusing character cutscenes which never overstay their welcome or take themselves too seriously. All in all, I still recommend it. I think you have to go in knowing that the game -will- bite you back from time to time, but you'll still get much more good experiences out of it than bad. I'm eager to keep hammering through the story and enjoy everything this game has to offer.
  • Recommended Posted August 13, 2025 on Steam At first I was sceptical about Trail Out and thought it would be a poorly made FlatOut copycat, but I was wrong. It is basically what FlatOut 3 should have been. While the real successor of FlatOut — Wreckfest — became a more serious game, this one retains the FlatOut's light-hearted carefree spirit, including the soundtrack style (with some decent songs), a leader board of boss rivals, menu style, and concept. This game went even further and created a story with cutscenes and dialogues (it's not the best story and probably would be appreciated only by East Slavs, because the main character is supposedly from Belarus), a dynamic day cycle and weather, a myriad of pop culture references (cars, characters, locations), a bunch of Soviet and Russian vehicles, East Slavic characters (with hardbass music and gopniks, no less), new modes, improved graphics, and fleshed out characters (each rival has a hometown where you will be battling them and a unique anthem that blares out of their cars during the boss events). I also enjoyed attention to detail (e.g. brake lights still functioning and becoming white after you destroy the red brake light cover) and the fact that there is a great variety of moving obstacles (whether it be wild animals, logging trucks, or trains). The voice acting and translation could use some work and at least one of the achievements seems to be bugged right now. During some of the long and hard races late in the game I would come first twice, but the game registered me as second, which is even more annoying when you realise that there is a catch-up system in place, so you can be confidently leading the first nine minutes of the race just to be overtaken on the last two turns. More importantly, the car handling is quite janky and feels unpredictable. Also, checking the fan messages, doing streams, and collecting donations eventually became a drag, but overall I did not feel like I had to force myself to play Trail Out as it happens with some games when you launch them the first few times. So yeah, if you have never played FlatOut and want to feel what it's like without diving back into the 2007 graphics (that's when the last real FlatOut was released), Trail Out is definitely a solid option.
  • Recommended Posted March 16, 2026 on Steam I tried out the demo back in 2022 and oh man has this game evolved. This game is literally a mix of tons of racing games from early 00s. You have Flatout (obviously) but then comes... Need For Speed (some of the car choices, there is a M3 GTR DLC even lmao) Colin McRae rally (There is a rally mode with codriver) Carmageddon/Twisted Metal Road Rash (bikes with combat) BLUR!!!! (There is literally a whole game mode 1:1 to blur and even more stuff added, same powerup racing as back then) There is split screen up to 4 players on PC! And there is even a mini game mode where the game literally turns into zombie survival. You can get out of your car, shoot them, smash them, defeat bosses, upgrade your cars with more guns etc etc It's like this game has 10 other games. It's a bit jank in some places, physics, but man it's fun, you can destroy everything you see. The voice acting seems to be bad on purpose and the references to other stuff are crazy lmao Ofc performance could be a bit better, but taking into account I got this game for under 5 euros and haven't bought any DLC...I can allow it. Just get it if you miss an actually fun game that doesn't take itself very serious.
  • Recommended Posted February 17, 2026 on Steam A spirtual succesor to Flatout that comes with all the Eurojank it should. The game it's story is stupid and corny, mixing a boat load of racing games their stories and gameplay gimmicks. It essentially feels like a spoof film in game form but with actual substance on the gameplay front. Pick it up, its a good indie arcade racer !
