Not recommended Posted September 26, 2025 on Steam Whether you are planning on returning to this game after a break or are looking to get into a quite uniquely-styled voxel game, DON'T play this game in 2025. It has no semblence of what it used to be anymore and there are no redeeming qualities left. What it has devolved into over the years is a disgustingly monetized snoozefest that is CHOCK FULL with hackers that have absolutely RUINED the games economy over time and are on top of the leaderboards with the most unachievable stats you could imagine. Everyone knows it, no one does a thing. Look up videos about it if you don't believe me. You will never catch up unless you are prepared to spend literally thousands of dollars on upgrading your gems and mastery points - I am not joking or exaggerating here. I do sincerely miss the good old Trove I fell in love with years ago but this is now the epitome of pay-to-win, arguably even pay-to-reasonably-progress, and there is a probably just an underpaid skeleton crew left who either can't keep up or don't care about the game enough to make any meaningful changes to its many flawed systems. I've come back over the years to check on it and can confidently say there is no passion left in this game nor will there ever be again. It purely exists to milk the player for as much money as they possibly can by making every single system as frustrating and grindy as possible. I'll probably try to reach 42,5k Power Rank for the most recent highest difficulty just so I can say I REALLY gave it a fair shot and see nothing truly has changed...and then dip again for another 2 years. Stay the ♥♥♥♥ away from this game for your own good. If you want to grind and not get scammed by a greedy publisher and deal with hackers play Warframe instead. -
Not recommended Posted May 17, 2026 on Steam A gorgeous voxel masterpiece held hostage by bot farms, server lag, and desperate developers. Trove is, without a doubt, one of the most uniquely charming voxel MMORPGs ever created. At its core, it is an absolute blast—a vibrant, blocky sandbox that perfectly marries the boundless creativity of Minecraft with the frantic, loot-heavy dungeon crawling of Diablo. Choosing a class like the Neon Ninja or the Dino Tamer and blasting through procedurally generated realms to smash bosses and collect spectacular mounts is incredibly satisfying. When you couple that with the ability to build massive Club Worlds with your friends and customize your personal Cornerstone house, it's easy to see why so many of us fell head over heels in love with this game during its golden era. However, if you look at the recent reviews, it is heartbreakingly clear that the game is in a massive downward spiral. The servers have become an absolute joke, plagued by a permanent, rubber-banding lag that teleports you backward every time you try to jump or execute a combo. Worse yet, the in-game economy has been completely obliterated by rampant bot farms and duplication exploits. Instead of aggressively fixing these fundamental engine and security issues, the development team’s baffling "solution" was to straight-up remove the player trading system, essentially alienating the core community. Rather than repairing a sinking ship, they continue to just stack event upon event, pretending everything is fine while the structural integrity of the game crumbles. The tragedy of Trove is that beneath the aggressive pay-to-win microtransactions, the abysmally time-gated endgame gem grind, and the current technical disaster, there is still the skeleton of a 10/10 game. It is easily the best pixel MMO out there, but it is currently being choked to death by years of poor management and predatory monetization. If you are a veteran returning for nostalgia, prepare to be hit with profound disappointment; if you are a new player, you will be met with ten years of overwhelming, confusing content and a broken marketplace. It is still worth downloading just to experience the magical early-game loop for a weekend, but do not invest your heart—or your wallet—into a world that the developers seem content to let burn. 5/10 (Recent) / 9/10 (Concept) — The trading is gone, the bots have won, and I just rubber-banded into a lava pit. Rest in peace, old friend. -
Not recommended Posted April 1, 2026 on Steam Removing Shadow Towers was the beginning of the end ngl. Don't play this game, it'll suck the soul out of your being. 2017-2020 was peak Trove for me personally, Delves just don't have that same feeling. Ofc, this could be nostalgia talking, but I'm definitely not the only user that's not the biggest fan of Delves. With trading destroyed (why did they do that lmao, i come back after years and the marketplace is down, wicked) and way WAY too much stuff basically pay-to-win (paragon is agony and why do we have crystal gems???), it's time to pack it up. Unless God bestows a miracle and gives this game better management, it's over. if you're sideeyeing my hours i used the glyph engine directly and didn't even know steam existed back then -
Not recommended Posted January 8, 2026 on Steam Used to play this game religiously back in 2015-2018 on ps4 it had soul back then, now it's just a soulless cash grab slop. -
Not recommended Posted March 8, 2026 on Steam Haven't played this game since around 2023. Although it had insanely annoying and time consuming grind, the game could work thanks to the community, marketplace, social interactions, etc. The playerbase was small, but you'd always find at least some people to play with. As of right now, March of 2026, where I came back to the game, functions that kept the game alive have been disabled since Christmas of 2025. Club Chests (Public Clan Inventory for weaker players to get stuff from veterans), Marketplace (Where you'd sell item for in-game currency, both free and paid) and even the Trading Post, which is an item where you directly trade with other people. I came back to the game to play for a bit with a few friends to maybe get a game to actively spend the weekend with them. One of them was way lower level than the rest so we were helping them grind enough mastery to get access to Trading Post and get them going so we could all grind together and have fun, sadly these functions are not working. As I said before, this game's grind is horrible and extremely time consuming. It'd take maybe months to find better piece of gear to upgrade your Power Rank just a bit. Now you're forced to grind for absolutely everything completely on your own because of the lack of a Public Marketplace function. Stay away from this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. No wonder the peak player activity in the last month was of 800~ players on steam. -
Not recommended Posted July 19, 2025 on Steam I have played trove for like roughly 400 hours and the other hours I'm talking about are from console. I love trove. A lot. But I can NOT deal with how grindy and bad it is. For perspective, I got to 36k pr. For people who don't understand that's midgame practically, and by mid-late game, a lot of stuff is timegated. If the devs poured more effort or stuff into trove then by all means it would be goated. But it's honestly missing so much and it sucks it's missing a lot. I hope the game can improve slowly overtime. But if it doesn't, I sadly will have to tell others to save their time and pour it into somewhere else
