Not recommended Posted December 12, 2025 on Steam I've never seen a company delist and rerelease a game just to add a couple of languages instead of simply updating the original. Absolutely insane. Oh, and save games are incompatible, because of course... -
Not recommended Posted December 14, 2025 on Steam This is a re-listing of Yakuza Kiwami 2, which originally came to Steam in 2019. It is internally referred to as a remaster, which is a bit of a stretch. Kiwami 2 itself is a remake that was received rather positively despite failing to stay true to the original. For new players, this is the best way to experience Yakuza 2's story, even if many believe that the original PS2 release was better in some aspects. This re-release is being reviewed negatively by people such as myself due to stupid and anti-consumer practices from the developer, RGG Studio. The original version is still available on GOG, as well as less legal sources. I will now go over the differences between this version and the "legacy" version. - many graphical issues in the original port by QLOC have been fixed. most notably, anti aliasing works better and hair now renders correctly, the game also now runs on DirectX 12 - new text languages have been added - new subtitle style, upscaling and frame generation options have been added - DOES NOT support save files from the legacy version of the game. a community tool to convert old saves is available, but achievements don't carry over - DOES NOT FIX MAJOR ISSUES such as the Toylets minigame being broken above 30 FPS. a community fix was available for the legacy version, but is most likely not compatible with this version - REMOVED trading cards and badges (or at least they are unavailable at this time) - BREAKS SUPPORT FOR OLD MODS. very tragic considering the Kiwami 2 Silly Mod was rather iconic In my experience, much like in the original version of Kiwami 2, performance is rough. the game also still has that ugly green filter over it. On the other hand, I no longer have to run it through DXVK for it to be playable. As it's likely influencing many people's reviews, I'll also mention for the sake of context that RGG Studio is currently in the middle of a controversy due to hiring Teruyuki Kagawa for Yakuza Kiwami 3, an actor that has committed sexual assault. The situation has only grown to this level because RGG Studio and/or SEGA stubbornly refuse to address the situation, instead choosing to suppress community outrage. To many long time fans including myself the choice to re-release Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1 and Kiwami 2, with none of the new versions supporting old save files and two of them being paid upgrades, feels weirdly disrespectful towards RGG's existing and loyal playerbase. In games that take this long to complete, especially if you want to platinum it, you have to treat things like save files with more care. This further sours the already rough relationship with RGG due to scummy practices with DLC in Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth as well as the aforementioned sex pest thing. -
Not recommended Posted December 19, 2025 on Steam I now understand why Toshihiro Nagoshi left SEGA/RGG to make Gang of Dragon. It's one thing to delist the game and give out the new version to owners (why not just make it an update to the original???), but doing that for Kiwami 2 and then charging for Kiwami 1 for essentially some more languages (and somehow 20GB bigger in files) is absolutely absurd. On top of that, they were too lazy to make saves compatible and instead rely on the community to develop it for themselves. I love the Yakuza franchise so much. The crazy story, gameplay, and antics are hiliarious and it still is a great series at the end of the day, but the recent paywalling of previously included features and anticonsumer decisions like this make it hard to recommend for new players or even experienced ones to continue giving money to this franchise. -
Not recommended Posted December 13, 2025 on Steam Why give this one away for free but not the other just as low effort re-releases (that should've been a patch update)? Also, Remove Kagawa. Stop recasting characters. Especially Okinawan ones with generic looking pretty boys. -
Not recommended Posted December 12, 2025 on Steam for the 20th anniversary of the series, RGG studio decided to flush their reputation down the toilet by: - selling overpriced cheap poorly rendered acrylic stands, - paywalling functions that should have been a free update just to sell more copies, - casting a confirmed s_x offender for the (yet another) remake of an older game and making him the center of promotion in japan. this is just beyond anti-consumer and borderline evil. i love the rgg franchise, but can't say i want to support this studio with my money anymore. -
